The upcoming Amazon series of Neil Gaiman‘s “Anansi Boys” will star Academy Award winner Whoopi Goldberg as Bird Woman.
Fresh from Variety, actress, comedian and host, Ms. Whoopi Goldberg is Bird Woman in the Amazon series adaptation of author Neil Gaiman’s “Anansi Boys”.
EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony) award winner Goldberg has over 150 film projects under her belt. She has taken on characters for movies of different genres. The actor worked with Steven Spielberg in his critically acclaimed film The Color Purple, which earned her first acting award in 1986 from Golden Globes. Her work with Jerry Zucker for Ghost won her the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Goldberg is also widely known as Deloris in Sister Act which is a box office hit in 1992 and got an immediate sequel for 1993. She continues to be active in the entertainment industry through various front and behind the camera works. Furthermore, she maintains her seat in The View as one of the hosts since 2005.

A considerable population of readers celebrate Author Neil Gaiman’s work in titles The Sandman, the comic book series for DC Comics featuring Dream and the 6 other Endless. His novels are the award winning Stardust, American Gods, Coraline, and The Graveyard Book to name a few. Most recently, the author’s activities include being a producer and screen writer for Black Hole and The Graveyard Book.
With the current trend of developing franchises for streaming and movies, Amazon has positioned itself as one of the leading contenders for content choice. Latest addition to the streaming library are MGM properties including the James Bond and Rocky franchises just to name two. With Anansi Boys coming into Amazon, there is the possibility of adding other Gaiman literature in their library.

Anansi Boys are sons of an incarnation of the West African spider god, Anansi. They go through challenges and adventures after their father dies rather embarrassingly. Thrusted into fantastical worlds they navigate to solve complicated situations brought about by their father’s past.
Other cast members for the series are Malachi Kirby (Small Axe, Boiling Point) as Charlie Nancy, Delroy Lindo (Da 5 Bloods, The Good Night) as Charlie’s father the spider god. As well as Fiona Shaw as Maeve Livingstone, Jason Watkins as Graham Coats, and CCH Pounder as Mrs. Higgler.
Production is currently filming for 6 episodes with a target release date that is still under wraps.
