Walter Hamada Exits DC Films Warner Bros Discovery

Reports confirm that Walter Hamada will now add the word ‘former’ to his title as he exits as President of DC Films in Warner Bros. Discovery. Deadline breaks the news that many are already expecting to happen for a few months now.

At the height of the Batgirl tax write-off, there were talks about Hamada already to bounce out the company. Only that Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy were able to convince him to stay until Black Adam reaches its premiere. Now, with just a day before the movie arrives into theaters, the report says Hamada has already packed and left his office in Burbank, California.

According to the report, Hamada also declined the offer of a producer deal. Thus, Black Adam might be the last project to have him as an Executive Producer under DC Films.

For years, fans have not been beating around the bush in saying they want Hamada out. Together with other DC Films executives who are now also out of the company, fans view the former regime quite disdainfully. Relatively, the same fans who see the former management team of DC Films are those that think they are the reason why DC is in such a mess now.

Naturally, the news came as a joyful confirmation that new era of DC has truly come. Henry Cavill’s Superman progressed from limbo to cameo. In addition, a promise for a future bout with Black Adam as well.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been very vocal about the changes that DC fans can expect down the line. And fans are truly hopeful.

However, despite the lack of harmony in the overall products of DC Films, Hamada has contributed to its development even though the franchises lack connection. Titles such as The Batman, The Suicide Squad and Joker, are all performing branches of the studio. But again, they are in their own pocket universes.

CEO David Zaslav has noted that while DC Films has well-performing titles under its IP, it lacks the factor that could have launched it to its full potential. Unabashedly, Zaslav states he wants DC Films to emulate what Marvel has done. It’s the only studio that has that kind of potential. And Zaslav wants DC Films to find its counterpart to Marvel’s President Kevin Feige. Thus, his 10-year plan has the mission to achieve the path towards what Marvel has at present.

Hence, Zaslav resets the focus of DC Films in Warner Bros. Discovery to theatrical releases. And, of course, decisions have consequences. Those that don’t share his vision are now out of the picture. More and more, news about DC developments would surface.

Walter Hamada is one of the executives who have halted the progression of the Justice League narrative. Specifically, the Snyderverse Justice League. The moment Zack Snyder’s Justice League streamed on HBO Max, fans felt vindicated knowing the movie had the direction they imagined. And the fans what more of it.

Now there is also a clamor for David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. Furthermore, the said Ayer Cut of the Suicide Squad apparently had a way better story showcasing Jared Leto’s Joker and Ben Affleck’s Batman.

Until Zaslav finds ‘the one’, his trusted executives De Luca and Abdy share the responsibilities of steering the DC Films ship toward a steady direction. Johnson also offers his insights as to the future of the studio stating he is there to help as much as he can even until they find their ‘Feige’.

With Black Adam approaching this weekend, DC has titles coming in 2023. Shazam: Fury of the Gods on March, The Flash on June 23, Blue Beetle on August 18 and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom on Christmas Day. It’s every fan’s hope that things do get better for DC from this project on. As for the rest of its other projects, Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie à Deux eyes an October 2024 release. It’s possible that the sequel to Black Adam featuring the much awaited square-off with Superman will happen within that year as well.

And, when can we expect the sequel to Man of Steel? Your guess is as good as ours.
