Following up on our report about Horizon Zero Dawn coming to Netflix, it now has Umbrella Academy creator Steve Blackman as co-showrunner. Currently, Blackman is developing the new series together with Michelle Lovretta. In a report from Deadline, the development is part of the multi-million dollar deal Blackman has with Netflix.
As the Umbrella Academy approaches its final season in the streaming service, Blackman refills his plate with new projects. These projects: Horizon Zero Dawn and Orbital, are under his new production banner, Irish Cowboy.

Originally, Horizon Zero Dawn is an action-adventure game from Sony PlayStation. Whereas, the story showcases our world in the distant future. There, different tribes thrive among machines that somehow came into symbiont with nature. Initially peaceful, these machines turn into hunters of all life. Thus, Aloy, a young outcast, takes it upon herself to save the world by finding out what happened in the past. With over 20 million copies of the game sold all over the world through PlayStation 4 and PC, Horizon Zero Dawn has devoted fans hopefully awaiting Netflix’s adaptation.
Blackman and Lovretta has their work cut out for them because fans can be truly difficult to please. Certain expectations are also in place after the recent victory of another game related adaptation in the Emmy’s. Arcane League of Legends from creators Christian Linke and Alex Yee set the bar high for fans. This year’s Best Animated Program truly proves that a successful adaptation of a series from a well-loved game is possible.
World-building is also the backbone of a successful intellectual property franchise. Horizon Zero Dawn has all the potential to bring forth a new world in a series or even a movie platform. The tribes, landscapes, the history and the adventures that the game has are slices of a pie that belongs to a huge banquet of stories. At the very least, fans hope that they don’t take the path that Resident Evil took, which is also streaming on Netflix. Fans have all the hope that Horizon Zero Dawn would not disappoint.

Abbey Morris joins Blackman and Lovretta as executive producer together with Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan of PlayStation Productions. Jan-Bart van Beek and Ben McCaw represents Guerilla with Roy Lee and Matthew Ball representing Veritgo all as executive producers as well.
Naturally, the upcoming series will be in association with Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions. Guerilla created the video game Horizon Zero Dawn for PlayStation Studios.
The production is yet to announce its director, writer, cast and release date.
