Welling and Durance answered the question if they were interested even for just a one-off special featuring the story of Superman’s choice to give up his powers.

Tom Welling immediately replied:

Like our own multiverse? Sure. Why not!

To which, Durance followed it with:

It’d be fun!

Smallville aired for ten seasons starring Welling as Clark Kent/Superman. Erica Durance joined the series on its fourth season as Lois Lane. Fans have long wanted to see Welling wear the red and blue suit but throughout the show’s run, he only got to wear the family’s symbol which is ‘not an S’ in the last scene. Even then, it wasn’t even the full body suit neither did the series clearly show him in flight wearing it. Clearly, during its run, Smallville was for Clark Kent and his journey to becoming Superman. Once he accepted his role in the world, that was the end of Smallville.

If anything, Tom Welling extensively depicted the Last Son of Krypton’s journey as Clark Kent. Growing up among people who accepted him as part of their family and learning what it meant to be Earth’s most powerful superhero.

Up until February this year, Welling has been pitching an animated series to Warner Bros. Discovery. The developing project will pick up where Smallville left off in its final episode. However, story details are not yet clear as creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are still busy with other commitments. Until then, development will still be raw. Meanwhile, the actors from the original live action series are already willing to come back and lend their voices to the proposed animated series. Welling excitedly shares:

…we’re going to do this. I want to be Clark’s voice, I want Erica to be Lois’ voice, that’s going to be the fun of it. I think there’s a story that Al and Miles are going to tell that’s individual and new and call it a Multiverse thing. But let’s see where it goes, and it’ll be fun so yeah.

Indeed Clark, that would be truly fun.
