The sequel rightfully covered Maverick’s deep seeded sorrow towards the loss his wingman Goose. Goose left a son who grew to follow in his father’s footsteps. Maverick now has Goose’s son to train. Through this, Maverick ensures Goose’s son’s safety and best training. He uses this as a means to atone for what he thinks he has done. Inevitably, as their profession calls for it, they are led to a mission that will demand risking their life itself.

Reactions and reviews of Top Gun: Maverick are highly acclaimed and very well received. People are now speculating that this has actually given birth to a new franchise for Tom Cruise. The sequel had a budget of $170M and as of now, they have already gotten this back and some with nearly $330M in with worldwide box office.

Not bad for an old-timer. The original movie in 1986 had a budget of $15M that clocked in a worldwide box office sum that is 23.8 times the budget in $357M.

As a lot of franchises nowadays have also utilized the series streaming format, could Top Gun be another one? A series focused on a team of fighter pilots would be a possible premise but will it feature Tom Cruise? The sequel worked because it brought so much memories into it. That kind of novelty will be a challenge to maintain. Would the team be up to it? That still remains to be seen.
