Taika Waititi shares that Thor 4 has deleted scenes of Lena Headey, Jeff Goldblum and even Peter Dinklage, which is for the movie’s own good. It’s now not a secret that the movie originally had more than 4 hours of time before it went to the cutting table. Waititi has also expressed that a director’s cut actually sucks.
I’ve been thinking about director’s cuts. I watch director’s cuts of a lot of other directors. They suck. Director’s cuts are not good. Directors need to be controlled sometimes and if I was to say, ‘ah you wanna watch my director’s cut? It’s four and a half hours long!’ It’s not good, at four and a half hours. There’s a lot of cup-of-tea breaks in there, you don’t even have to pause it.

Most likely implying that the 4-hour run actually just has a lot of scenes that don’t add to the story, Waititi states it is for the movie’s best interest. However, it’s also inevitable that more people will get their interest piqued after hearing him say actors’ names:
You have to do what’s best for the film. If you ask any of those actors who were cut out — Jeff Goldblum, Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage — they all understand how it works. They have been in the game long enough. But that’s just the way I look at things.
Already, fans are curious as to what scenes could they have been a part of. While Goldblum and Dinklage has standing characters in the MCU’s Thor franchise, people wonder about Headey’s character. Could Lena Headey be one of the gods that encountered Gorr in the movie? Their presence would not have been that of a story carrier, otherwise their scene would obviously be in the final cut. But still, people can’t help but speculate. Waititi has also doused growing anticipation that perhaps these deleted scenes might see the light of day in the form of bonus links for video sales. He said:
People say, ‘I can’t wait for the deleted scenes with those actors.’ I don’t want people to see the deleted scenes because they’re deleted for a reason: They aren’t good enough. The scenes were not in the movie and that’s it.

On the bright side, people can find comfort in the knowledge that what they see in the theaters is what Waititi wants in the first place. Maybe it’s truly for the greater good that those other hours are chipped off the piece. However, there are still people who wish they could have seen more build up of the story. Some say that the movie has a larger slice of the pie for the comedy that may have been devoted to explain other facets of the story. Some say that there are characters that were underutilized.
All in all, considering the way people talk about the movie, it keeps the audience engaged. The conversations – should we say arguments? – on whether it delivered the promise of a great continuation of Thor’s story signify that they are keeping their audiences engaged. For a franchise, that is a good thing.
Any chances this continues on to Thor 5? Who knows?
