Star Wars Disney Plus series The Mandalorian finished shooting Season 3 and Taika Waititi is part of the cast aside from directing episodes. While fans recall that the character he gave voice to, IG-11 is already dead, this can mean he is coming back as a new recurring character in the series. Waititi is, indeed, known to portray supporting or minor characters in films he directs. Everyone knows he is Korg in Thor: Ragnarok as well as the much awaited Thor: Love and Thunder.
But aside from that, Waititi became Blackbeard in his TV series Our Flag Means Death. Also, he is Viago in What We Do in the Shadows. And, he became Adolf in 2019 Jojo Rabit where he also won his Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Truly, he is man of many talents. Thus, it may not have been a surprise to many when sffgazette reported that he will be returning in front of the camera for Star Wars Mandalorian Season 3.

Normally, IG-11 is an assassin droid programmed to follow Bounty Hunters Guild protocols verbatim. But in season 1, Waititi gave his voice to IG-11 that is reprogrammed to take care of Grogu, then known as The Child. To prevent Din Djarin, Grogu and their allies’ capture, IG-11 activated its self destruct mode to allow the rest’s escape.
Details as to whether Waititi will be another droid or IG-11 droid for The Mandalorian Season 3 is not available. There may even be a chance that he is portraying an entirely different role. Nevertheless, knowing Waititi, fans of the show expect him to take on a comic character to lighten the tone of the scene.
After the events from The Book of Boba Fett, The Mandalorian has covered the Season 2 question whether Din Djarin and Grogu would ever cross paths again. By the series’ conclusion, Grogu chose to be with Din Djarin over Jedi training with Master Luke Skywalker. Their reunion in Mos Espa is one of the most favorite scenes from the entire series for any Star Wars project. After helping Boba Fett achieving well-respected Daimyo status, the surrogate father and child zoomed into space.

Taika Waititi directs some episodes in the series as well as perform as a recurring character. There are three major plotlines we think that the series has to cover in the upcoming season. First, Bo Katan Kryze’s challenge to gain the Darksaber. Second, the prevailing threat to Grogu’s life because the child is highly force-sensitive. And third, Grogu’s training as a youngling. Of course, fans are also expecting the whole season to be mixed with side quests. But, they also won’t forget the demonstration of force powers from The Child. What role could Waititi play in any or all of these plotlines? We can only take a few guesses.
This is the way the Force remains with them.
