Come to think of it, the first movie already showcased the possibility of resurrecting a character. That is if he or she has access to the technology. What do we mean by this? Lang said that the character people will see in the upcoming film is practically a copy. More specifically, he now has a body that will be “at home” in Pandora. In his words:
He’s a genetically-engineered autonomous avatar. He has been downloaded with the mind, the emotions, and even more interestingly, possibly the spirit of Quaritch.
In essence, he is an Avatar clone of himself. One that is about almost the original. Almost because there is a certain amount of memory he doesn’t have. And he isn’t human anymore. Lang continues:
Now, that’s all pretty esoteric stuff. He comes with a full memory bank up until the time he actually undergoes the DNA transfer. So there are certain things that he doesn’t have any memory of at all. He has no memory of his death.
He may very well be among what the upcoming movie calls the Recombinants. As his original is one of the leaders of the past group, he is now leading the group that will return to Pandora.

The official trailer already implies that a good number of years have passed since the battle. Jake Sully now has a family with Neytiri. While the first movie focused on land dwellers and flyers among the Na’vi, the second movie features a group that thrives on land and water.
We assume that over the years, the land dwellers lived in peace until the villains came back to finish what they started. This drove them away from their home that led them to the group that thrive in the oceans of Pandora. We speculate some conflicts within the tribes will be in focus before they come together to defeat the alien oppressors.
Apart from being among the leaders of his people, Jake Sully now is a family man. Avatar: The Way Of Water surfs in cinemas on December 16. We look forward to seeing how the story continues in the world of Pandora.
