Learning about Sony working on a Men In Black series for streaming means that there is another franchise I will surely put on my watch list.
A lot of series for online streaming services are banking on nostalgia of devoted fans.
Even theatrical films are banking on nostalgia as they bring in well loved characters and storylines in new projects.
I am looking at you Spidey!
Apparently, Sony is again dabbing into this formula with a Men in Black series.

The series is set as a live action project.
At the moment, it is most likely still at the development stage of production.
They have yet to announce a showrunner, creator, writer, producer and production team.
Looking back at the original movies, there is no question on the entertainment value that the first movie gave.
Men In Black or MIB as the movies were fondly remembered, logs a total franchise cost of $555M which earned $1.94B in worldwide box office.
Despite the decline in box office performance for the succeeding titles, each movie still generated positive revenues for Sony.

Perhaps the major consideration in working on a Men In Black series is that it still warrants positive returns.
However, as the numbers of cost to revenue slim in every instalment of the franchise, a fifth movie may be too risky.
Hence, a series for streaming.
Obviously, the 2007 film with Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones was the best and most successful of all.
At the time, the concept was novel and funny as well as boundary-pushing effects wise.
The idea that aliens have long occupied earth in disguise is not actually new.
But, the execution of the plot was intriguing and showcase great chemistry between the leads.
It is a sci-fi, buddy cop movie with apocalyptic tropes.
Quite possibly, the first movie was so good that it was really hard to top or at least keep up with.

What I would like to see in the upcoming project is a nod to the original charm.
It can be an anthology of alien rescue stories too.
They can tackle how certain historical events actually transpired and the cover up done for the general public.
Or maybe, a somewhat comedic version of The X-Files or The Fringe?
Giant Freakin Robot’s Doug Norrie mused a prequel set of episodes for the series.
This is also highly possible since a lot of stories are left untold.
Men In Black for streaming series is truly making me want to watch the franchise again.
Maybe brush up on alien conspiracy theories too. Why not?
I wonder if they are considering to bring some actors back for it as well.
That would be epic.
