Season 2 of Alice In Borderland Wraps Up Filming

Alice in Borderland Season 2 wraps up filming and the cast talk about their take on the new season for Netflix.

The Netflix show, Alice in Borderland, is based on a manga written by Haro Aso. The lead character is Ryohei Arisu played by Kento Yamazaki. Arisu is trapped in an abandoned Tokyo which seems to be some form of alternate universe called the Borderland. There, he and other players must compete in a series of deadly games. Beating the game ensures that they just live longer. With the hopes of returning to their own universe… if there is anything left to return to.

The series is like a combination of the movie Battle Royale (2000) and Alice In Wonderland. Although, it’s mostly a Battle Royale feel, with some Alice in Wonderland references.

Alice in Borderland season 1 was released in December 10, 2020. It had a lot of positive reviews, it’s even got an approval rating of 71% in Rotten Tomatoes. In just one month, it has been reported that the show was already viewed at 18 million households.

Season 2 started filming at the end of 2020, and wrapped on March 20, 2022. The production announced the wrap up on Twitter.

Season 1 was close to the manga, but with a lot of minor changes in terms of personality with slight changes to the events, but in general, still goes with the flow of the manga. But at the end of season 1, it felt like it diverted to something else. So, we aren’t sure if the show will still follow the same flow of the story of the manga, which may still make sense. But they can still deviate from the original manga. Season 1 covered one half of the manga, so it will make sense that they’ll cover the second half in season 2.

The manga is popular enough that it has spin-offs. So, if Alice in Borderland gets a third season, they may even go for making spin-offs just like the original source material.

The original manga was released in November 2010 and lasted up until March 2016 with 18 volumes. A Japanese OVA was also released with 3 episodes which ran from October 2014 to February 2015.

The show is now currently going through post production and Netflix plans to release Alice in Borderland Season 2 in December this year. Meanwhile, Season 1 is still available to stream on Netflix.
