Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4 Not Impossible

Now that Doctor Strange 2 is almost here, Sam Raimi gets to express all things are possible and it includes Spider-Man 4.

In his interview with Fandango, the director shared his thoughts about his upcoming film. Much more about the set of characters’ development in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He loved that characters had variations. Raimi also enjoyed having to combine the horror and superhero genre into one movie.

It’s been quite a while since Sam Raimi got to direct a superhero film. A generation of Spider-Man fans grew up with his version starring Tobey McGuire. Not in anyone’s surprise, he still thinks about the cancelled fourth film. However, given the opportunity that Doctor Strange now presents, even he thinks all things are possible in the MCU.

When he was asked if there would be a possibility for him to direct a Tobey McGuire Spider-Man again, he answers:

I’ve come to realize after making Doctor Strange that anything is possible, really anything in the Marvel universe, any team-ups. I love Tobey. I love Kirsten Dunst. I think all things are possible. I don’t really have a story or a plan. I don’t know if Marvel would be interested in that right now. I don’t know what their thoughts are about that. I haven’t really pursued that. But it sounds beautiful. Even if it wasn’t a Spider-Man movie, I’d love to work with Tobey again, in a different role.

At the moment, there aren’t clear plans for a future Spider-Man film. But, after Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans of previous Spider-Men revived interest in getting projects for both McGuire and Andrew Garfield. With Sony introducing quite a few Spidey villains, it just seems senseless to not show they have a Spider-Man counterpart in their storyline.

It’s true that after the Doctor Strange sequel that stars Benedict CumberbatchElizabeth Olsen, and Benedict Wong, possibilities are wide open for the MCU. A very promising sign is that Raimi himself enjoys being in the MCU. He particularly describes it as “the world’s best toy box”. There are already reports that he is on board for Doctor Strange 3.

The chances that he will be directing another Spider-Man movie, particularly with McGuire and Kirsten Dunst is now very high. Considering that Dunst has also expressed she would like to return to the character.

Interestingly, in the NWH movie, McGuire’s Spidey implied that they are together as they are working their relationship out. With Sam Raimi’s direction of horror combines with the superhero story, perhaps they can venture into the part in the comics where Mephisto did Peter Parker a favor in exchange of their love. The book was by Michael Straczynski entitled Spider-Man: One More Day.

I’d like to see that movie made. Wouldn’t you?
