Writer Russell T Davies takes to Instagram in welcoming Neil Patrick Harris into the long-running BBC series Doctor Who.
In an Instagram post from @russelltdavies63, Davies welcomes Harris to Cardiff. Apparently the Hollywood actor is the “greatest enemy the Doctor has ever faced.”
Sci-Fi & Fantasy Gazette featured the post of the Primetime Emmy Award Nominee writer as well. Davies posted Harris’ photo with the caption:
Neil Patrick Harris, welcome to Cardiff! Playing the greatest enemy the Doctor has ever faced. Such a great actor, such a great man, it’s an honour and a hoot. Have fun! @nph @bbcdoctorwho ♥️Ha! 🎵

The rising speculation for Harris’ upcoming role is the Celestial Toymaker also known as the Crystal Guardian, the Mandarin, or simply the Toymaker. In the fandom, the character is a powerful being who capture others in his quagmire of games in his Celestial Toyroom realm. The ones he captures to play has their freedom on the line and in some respects, their lives. The Toymaker always riggs the games to his favor as he always wants to win.
Based on Davies’ description “greatest enemy… ever faced” the seemingly omniscient power that the Toymaker wields in his realm fits. In the photo shared, Harris appears to be someone who crafts in a workshop. He would have to bring the Doctor into his world to be able to have the upper hand though. The Toymaker also sets his rules for the players and at times discloses a last-minute rule to twist the game. In the realm, it also appears that he has command of space and time travel. Therefore, The Celestial Toymaker truly is a leading candidate for Harris’ upcoming role.

Multi-Award winning actor Neil Patrick Harris is indeed a welcome addition to the series. He has the chops to bring the Toymaker into life if that is actually his role. His previous works on television alone speaks prime qualification: A Series of Unfortunate Events, Mystery Science Theater 3000, The Penguins of Madagascar, American Horror Story, and How I Met Your Mother. No doubt he can serve this character on a celestial platter.
Harris apparently will face off with Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor, the Fourteenth regeneration of this classic sci-fi character. All preparations and production is in the thick of operations for the series’ 60th Anniversary.
