Disney is preparing a documentary for Sesame Street and The Muppets creator Jim Henson with Ron Howard as the director.
The Jim Henson Company officially announces the documentary in the works for Disney about Jim Henson and his works through the years.
Howard is already on board to direct the feature.
Brian Grazer and Imagine Documentaries’ Sara Bernstein and Justin Wilkes to produce the feature project.

For more than three decades, Jim Henson created many of the world’s most beloved characters starting with Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, all of those belonging to the Sesame Street neighborhood, Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster, Count Dracula, Bert, Ernie and The Muppet show with Statler and Waldorf, Gonzo… just to name a few. He also created the original fantasy movies “The Dark Crystal” and “Labyrinth“, as well as his television series “The Story Teller” and “The Jim Henson Hour” which captured audience of all ages.

Jim Henson’s work in puppetry and imagery casts a spell among his audience. Children of all ages from different countries have grown up remembering his stories fondly. The innocence and wonder in his work captures the heart of many. It’s true that even today, people mourn the loss of Jim Henson. His vision and work remain inspirational to anyone who appreciates art. To continue his passion in the world of puppetry, he founded The Jim Henson Foundation in the United States. His daughter, Cheryl Henson, heads the foundation since 1992.

The documentary in the works boasts of its access to never-before seen personal archives of the iconic Jim Henson himself. The project aims to give audiences a wonderful peek into Jim Henson’s world. Exclusive home movies, photographs, sketches and his very own personal diaries are the main resource for the project’s content. Jim Henson’s family has entrusted the artistic archive to the team and further trusts that the carefully maintained treasure will be used to create a masterpiece reflecting their father’s work, life and inspirations. They are confident that Ron Howard can bring forth a thrilling story from the materials they gave him access to.
Can you imagine who will narrate this documentary? Maybe one of his creations can do it. Fans will expect perhaps a selection of interviews from Kermit and the gang or even some commentaries from Statler and Waldorf would also be in order.
The documentary has yet to announce details such as its official title and release date. We do however look forward to seeing this documentary unveiled and as The Swedish Chef would say:
