Radio Silence Directs Escape From New York Remake

The lens leaders of V/H/S, Scream (2022), Ready or Not, collectively named Radio Silence directs the remake of Escape from New York. The director of the original film is John Carpenter who will be its executive producer.

In truth, John Carpenter created a lot of classics during his active years. His works are classics such as The Thing, Halloween, Christine, They Live, Big Trouble in Little China and many more. Though Carpenter has not made any recent movies, his work is still notable today. In fact, just last month Universal Pictures released a Halloween film with the title Halloween Ends. Another example is The Thing, which had a prequel based on Carpenter’s film back in 2011. Even to this day, people still talk about They Live. And Christine is still one of my favorite Stephen King movie to date.

Doing what Carpenter has done is not an easy task. So much, because he was extraordinary at the time. Admirably, he has a knack for making breakthroughs with projects at low budget costs. And one of his most famous films is Escape from New York. Even Carpenter himself couldn’t repeat the achievements of the first film with Escape from LA.

Despite this, Radio Silence, composed of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett and Chad Villella, takes on the challenge. The original movie did so well in the box office in the 1980s. In fact, Carpenter made it for only $6M but got $25.3M World Wide. Note: the domestic box office comprise the $25.2M. At the time, international distribution isn’t as broadly encompassing as it is at present.

Critically and commercially, Escape from New York proved successful. In fact, the financial numbers positively reflect the reviews. The movie had 86% rating on the Tomatometer and has a 77% audience review.

Starring Kurt Russell as Lieutenant S.D. Plissken with code name Snake, the movie inspired many popular entertainment artforms. Author William Gibson acknowledges the movie influenced his 1984 sci-fi novel Neuromancer. Also, Metal Gear video game creator Hideo Kojima referred to the original movie heavily. Mainly on the game’s lead character: Solid Snake. The name itself is a nod to the movie’s lead. Furthermore, Solid Snake uses the alias Pliskin for the most part of the game’s sequel.

The remake of the film which Radio Silence will be directing has some huge combat boots to fill. Insiders say that the project is actively looking for their writer. Meanwhile, The Picture Company has the credits as the producer. Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman represents The Picture Company which closed the deal with movie title owner Studiocanal.
