Paramount Plus Gives Kelsey Grammer Green Light to Frasier 2

Kelsey Grammer gets the green light to follow up on Frasier for Paramount Plus after years of developing the sequel series. Deadline updates its 2018 report that the spin off from the comedy series Cheers will soon have its own sequel or form of reboot. Writers Chris Harris and Joe Cristalli are on board for the show as well.

Fans of the psychiatrist-turned-radio host character would be happy to know that the sequel is almost here. Grammer will reprise his role as well as produce the series to be streamed on Paramount Plus.

The sequel to the comedy series currently share that the story will focus on Frasier Crane’s life in a different city. This means that the doctor will get himself acquainted with new set of friends and or colleagues. While some speculate that there will be characters from his past series who will be guests in some episodes.

If this sounds familiar, fans of the original Frasier series will be quick to not that it’s actually the same premise. After all, the show Frasier is a spin off itself. The initial premise of the show is Doctor Frasier’s move from Boston back to his hometown in Seattle. Characters from the Cheers series also made guest appearances for the show.

Grammer executive produces the show with Cristalli, Tom Russo and Jordan McMahon. NH Productions and CBS Studios are the companies credited as the series producers.

Quite notably, Harris has years of experience in writing comedy. He wrote 18 episodes in How I Met Your Mother, created 7 episodes of The Goodwin Games. Harris also wrote 180 episodes for the Late Show with David Letterman. Meanwhile, Cristalli wrote for Maggie, The Best of Times, Acapulco, Perfect Harmony and Life in Pieces.

While some fans have commented their concerns on the premise being a repeat of the first, Grammer already made a statement last July:

The key ingredient for the Frasier reboot is actually Frasier, honestly. It was always called [Frasier], so it’s me, the key is me.

He [Frasier] thinks he’s gonna go off and do one thing, and sure enough, his life takes him in another direction. And he ends up rich beyond his dreams.

Grammer also shared how positive the progression of the story is going. He confirms:

[the production is] in the final stages of the final script for the first episode of the Frasier reboot and it looks pretty good. I’ve had a couple of runs through it, and I cried, so you know, I’m happy.

And, for someone who is supposedly a psychiatrist, that is a good thing.
