Nintendo completes the purchase of Dynamo Pictures to become Nintendo Pictures which will transform more of their franchise into movies. The entertainment industry has a new player on the board. And Nintendo Pictures means to be Player One in showcasing their IP characters and titles. The company’s official website is now live and people took notice immediately. PunkBeast also posted this purchase as the company officially announced it months ago.

Nintendo made the announcement last July and it also bears the date October 3 upon which the transaction will be completed. The new Nintendo Pictures company will be focusing on development of visual content using Nintendo IP. These include titles such as Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, Kid Icarus, Kirby, Metroid, Pikmin, and Punch-Out. Together with Splatoon, Star Fox, Super Smash Bros., Wii, and Xenoblade Chronicles. On top of these are The Legend of Zelda, Pokemon and Mario. IPs which already has adaptations for theaters and/or television.
While a full feature film is on schedule next year for Super Mario Bros., the purchase will not affect the movie. Even though IMDb still displays the upcoming movie as Untitled Super Mario Project, company credits still go to Illumination Entertainment and Universal Picture with Nintendo. The companies that the site has as distributors are Universal Pictures, United International Pictures, Netflix, Nintendo and Peacock. The movie stars Chris Prat as Mario, with Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi. Together with them are Keegan-Michael Key as Toad and Jack Black as Bowser. They also have Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong. Under the direction of Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic from Matthew Fogel’s pen, the movie will hit cinemas in April 2023.

Perhaps in a few months or years’ time, we will get to see more Nintendo IPs adapted for movie or series. The fans have long wanted to see a movie for The Legend of Zelda. Remember that April Fool’s trailer? Remember how many fans that video disappointed when they learned it’s not actually happening? Yes that one. IGN became keenly aware of the impact it had to the fandom. It just proved that the world is so ready for a live action adaptation of the game.
Perhaps this new player Nintendo Pictures is the answer to getting such dreams into reality.
