Studios do seem busy as we hear a new X-Files series is in development and will stream either in Disney Plus or Hulu.
A New report states that “alien abductions are about to get cool again” as there is a new X-Files series in development.
The X-Files is one of the longest running science fiction series from the 90s that lasted eleven seasons ending during the 2010s. It’s popularity grew as it made people question what is real. From conspiracy theories, cover-up missions, supernatural cases to alien presence on earth, X-Files gave the viewers the first opportunity to ask “what if this is true?”. The series is so well-received that it brought forth not one but two movies. The X-Files: Fight the Future in 1998 and The X-Files: I Want to Believe in 2008.

Chris Carter ran the series that starred David Duchovny as Fox Mulder and Gillian Anderson as Dana Scully. Mulder and Scully . Mulder and Scully are FBI Agents assigned to the X-Files. The FBI’s X-Files are unsolved cases with supernatural influence. Mulder is the one who believes in the existence of something beyond science. Primarily due to the abduction of his sister when he was young, he believed it was of alien nature. Scully is a medical doctor who counters Mulder’s supernatural theories with scientific explanations.
The series mostly had the “monster of the week” theme. The broader story arc is alien invasion and colonization of the earth. Extraterrestrial beings are already present in the planet. Mulder and Scully find out about The Syndicate, which is a group that serve as middlemen between the aliens and the humankind. The aliens mean to invade and colonize the planet using an alien virus that renders humans as mindless slaves. The Syndicate broke a deal with the aliens to be exempt from the exposure to the virus. Also, they are developing a cure from the virus as well as creating a human that can resist the virus.
Mulder and Scully end up as fugitives from the US Government.

The first movie in 1998, The X-Files: Fight the Future covers the government conspiracy about the presence of extraterrestrial beings. It also told about alien colonization of the earth. With a production budget of $66M, the movie recorded $189M in the worldwide box office.
The second movie in 2008, The X-Files: I Want to Believe have supernatural, spiritual and religious tones. It had a production budget of $35M that records $68M in the worldwide box office.
Over-all the series got 74% average on the Tomatometer and a higher 86% average audience score.

For the entire run of the series, The X-Files received numerous awards and is critically acclaimed. A reboot or re-opening of the X-Files may be something of importance. If one looks at the part where the aliens are intending to colonize humans through the use of a virus, the premise is very timely. It can also explore conspiracies behind current events, even the pandemic itself. There is also the possibility of delving into technological conspiracies. The internet and information can be powerful for entities as access to information becomes highly questionable drawing a very thin line between truth and fallacies.
So much intriguing aspects of the world today may be a focus of the new series.
It will be unlikely that they will retain the original characters though but who knows? If Duchovny, Andersen or any of the actors won’t be reprising their roles then perhaps a cameo would be a treat for long-time fans.
