Chris Evans is being discussed to lead for Netflix’s latest video game movie adaptation, Bioshock.
Netflix themselves announced that the video game franchise, Bioshock, will be adapted into a movie. Bioshock is one of the most visually striking games of today. It has two games set in a fictional city underwater called Rapture and the third game set in a city floating above the clouds called Columbia. It’s hard not to wonder, how to get this done in a cinematic fashion.
The original first two games were amazing to look at. The underwater city appears damaged, aged badly but has that classic 40’s aesthetic feel.
While the third game, Bioshock Infinite (2013) was visually bright and new. It has that look inspired from the World’s Columbian Exposition. The story itself is great. It leads to an interesting twist that feels ready for a movie adaptation.

A movie adaptation of Bioshock was in development back in 2008 with Gore Verbinski (A Cure for Wellness, Pirates of the Caribbean) to helm the film. Because of other commitments, Verbinski dropped out of being the director and in place Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later, Salvation) took over. But because of the intended restricted MPAA rating and the budget, Gore Verbinski left the project. Even though there was a new budget and director, game creator Ken Levine and 2K Games didn’t push through with Bioshock’s movie adaptation.
For the past few years, Netflix has been putting out a lot of original content, and surprisingly, some good video game related content too. Castlevania, DOTA, Dragon’s Blood, Monster Hunter Legends of the Guild, Wakfu, NiNoKuni, Carmen Sandiego, Dragon Quest: Your Story, and Skylanders Academy are some examples of Netflix original shows that were based on video games.
The Witcher is another prime example, the series is based on the book by Andrzej Sapkowski. But we all know that the success of the series was mainly because of the very popular video game The Witcher 3 from CD Red Project. Even the show’s lead actor Henry Cavill admits that his first exposure to the world of the Witcher was with playing the game on the PC. This is why he took on the role.
Arcane: League of Legends is another very successful MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) game adaptation that stood out from the rest, which we highly recommend watching. Netflix has recently released The Cuphead Show which is based on a more recent video game that was released in 2017.

Giant Freakin Robot’s own insider reports that Netflix is discussing whether Chris Evan could lead the Bioshock movie. Mind you that this is just in the discussion stage. We don’t have any confirmation if Netflix has reached out to Chris Evans about the possible role. But Netflix has had Chris Evans work on Netflix originals before. The Red Sea Diving Report (2019), and The Gray Man have release dates in July this year. So it’s not far off that he could come back for Bioshock.
The world clearly knows Chris Evans for being Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Evan’s has 11 movies to that list alone. However, apart from that, he also has been successful with other movies like Knives Out (2019), the Gifted (2017) and the upcoming Lightyear (2022).
Bioshock has no official release date as of yet, since it’s in early development. But given the nature of the property, it may expand as a franchise. Possibly with more movies and TV series (like what they did with The Witcher). If you know about Bioshock Infinite, this also deals with the multiverse way before the MCU made it their thing.
