Black Mirror was popular because it focused on near-future dystopian concepts. It played around with technology that are familiar to us, but used to the extremes. The show was very well received when it started airing in the British network Channel 4 from 2011 to 2013. The anthology series moved to Netflix in 2016, adding more seasons until 2019. The show even made an interactive movie called Black Mirror: Bandersnatch.

Season 5 of Black Mirror featured just three episodes in Charlie Brooke’s writing namely:

First is Striking Vipers. It’s the episode that starred Anthony Mackie, Nicole Beharie and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Here, Owen Harris directs a story about a happily married family man discovering the allure of virtual reality.

Second, Smithereens starring Andrew Scott, Damson Idris and Topher Grace. The episode has James Hawes as the director. In turn, it told about a cab driver’s excessive plan to get someone an access to a social media account.

Finally, Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too, starring Miley Cyrus, Angourie Rice and Madison Davenport. Anne Sewitsky directed the episode about a fan and her idol.

Of all 5 seasons so far, this last season has the weakest rating from viewers. Particularly, with a rating of 67% on the Tomatometer and 49% in Audience Score, it could not even begin to compare to it predecessors.

Hopefully, the long wait from Season 5 to Season 6 is indicative of the stories that series will tell. It will be difficult to bring the novelty of the first season back which gained the highest audience and critic score. Because, the surprise factor of Black Mirror’s first season is an element that will be hard to regain. People loved the freshness and the ideas that Black Mirror poked and teased in the episodes.

Now, fans closely watch series creator Charlie Brooke as he unravels new tales through the Black Mirror.
