Jared Leto is Dr. Michael Morbius. He is a doctor with a terminal blood disease. Because of this disease, he has made it his personal mission to find the cure and help other with the same ailment. In his pursuit for the cure, he turns himself into something he can only describe as a monster. Physiological changes as well as survival urges are similar that of a vampire. He becomes superhuman at the same time non-human.
In the official trailer, he struggles to accept the irreversible change and fears his new abilities. He will face challenges within himself and others as he ultimately finds where he belongs and determines his purpose and existence. Jared Harris, Tyrese Gibson, Matt Smith, Al Madrigal, Adria Arjona and Michael Keaton join Leto as cast.
Daniel Espinosa directed the movie written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. When asked about his decision to take the project, the director shared:
I like it was about an outsider of the Marvel universe and I thought it was fun. The idea was to mix it with Jared Leto, who is also a bit of an outsider of the Hollywood community, and the opportunity to do something that was kind of undiscovered and didn’t have already conceptualized ideas, so I would be allowed to have a little bit of fun with it.
And fun with Morbius he did have. The movie is well-laced with horror, suspense and thriller. More than a superhero or comic book movie, the story focused more on Morbius’ struggles. Less of the comedy that one sees with Venom and more of the darkness that horror origin stories offer in the movies.

There may be the disturbing fact that Morbius is critic-rated so low at 17% in the Tomatometer. However, regular audience rating of 70% indicates a wide disconnect in impression. Nevertheless, these ratings will be basis for points to improve on once a sequel is greenlit. For that to happen, Morbius needs to continue performing favorably in the box office.
