Moon Knight’s Writer Sabir Pirzada On Board For Marvel’s Nova

Marvel is developing a new project focusing on Nova and they have Moon Knight’s writer Sabir Pirzada now on board.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to introduce another character in Nova who also goes by the name Richard Rider. It’s not yet definite whether the project will be a full length feature film or a streaming series for Disney Plus.

Looking into Nova’s profile in the Marvel universe Earth 616, he is a regular teenager named Richard Rider. Richard acquired his powers from an alien centurion, Rhomann Dey. Rhomann Dey was mortally wounded and he had to choose a being that will inherit his power and succeed him in rank of Nova Prime. Richard Rider is the unsuspecting human who ends up receiving Dey’s powers.

As soon as Rider woke from his coma after receiving Dey’s powers, Rider was thrust to battle with the very same beings that attacked Dey’s planet. After defeating the threat, Richard Rider took on the responsibilities of Nova. He has since embraced the life of a superhero facing numerous enemies from different worlds. All these happened taking him away from his ordinary life as a teenager.

Eventually he wanted to return to his old life with his friends. He then had to relinquish his powers and came back to earth. Once back, it was not the way he envisioned it. He didn’t have the motivation to continue high school as his peers have already graduated. As his friends have led on with their own lives, he opted to take odd jobs to get by. He then began to wish for his powers again.

For a while, he continued on with his ordinary life until Night Thrasher kidnapped him and dropped him from a tall building. Richard fell but his powers were reactivated and was able to save himself from the fall.

It turns out that Night Thrasher is forming a special group of super powered beings. Dropping Richard was his test for him to see if he reacquires his powers. Good thing he did.

Marvel is coming up with new characters being introduced either through the movies like America Chavez and the Disney Plus streaming like Ms. Marvel. It is also important to note that the new characters are featuring a new generation in their teens. As for Richard Rider, he is described as a regular individual going through high school.

I can definitely see a romantic comedy or high school adventure angle for Richard Rider and it definitely screams series streaming. But who am I to suspect? Aside from comedy and adventure, there can be a psychological attribute to Nova’s story. The unsuspecting high school student suddenly gains powers. On top of this is the impending possibility of planetary destruction. Also, there will be times the thoughts of Richard Rider may be conflicted with what he is expected to do from what he wants to do. This inner turmoil can be quite difficult for someone of Richard’s age.

Sabir Pirzada will not be a stranger in writing a character with inner conflict. Being part of Moon Knight, Pirzada will be able to present Nova’s personal struggles well. Having Pirzada on board means Marvel is in the very early stages of development for Nova.

Depending on the progression of the production, perhaps we may see Richard Rider on theater or on streaming in a couple of years.
