Mike Myers Says Austin Powers May Have A 4th Movie

Oh behave! Mike Myers actually hints that there could very well be a 4th Austin Powers movie in development.

It sure looks like there will be another groovy movie baby! Ladbible reports that Mike Myers himself answered queries as to whether people can expect another instalment to Austin Powers.

A video on YouTube by SiriusXM captures the actor answer the question:

I can neither confirm nor deny the existence or non-existence of such a project, should it exist or not exist.

Watching the video, I thought, maybe they should have asked him two more times. But thinking back, nah, it wouldn’t have had the same effect on him. Thus his final statement,

It was a non-confirmed confirmation confirmation.

It kind of reminds me of Pinocchio in Shrek. A movie which happens to feature the lead character to have Mike Myers’ voice. A play of words to tease whether there is or there isn’t an actual confirmation of a non-confirmation of the confirmation.

We will not be surprised if ever there really is a fourth shaggy movie. Even though it has been 20 years since the last movie Austin Powers in Goldmember, the Worldwide Box Office record of $296M from a $63M budget is not an easy feat. With the second movie released in 1999, Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me a whopping $312M churned in from a $35M budget. The very first film Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery in 1997 even got $68M from an $18M budget. That is a total of $676M from the three movies that only costed $116M in production.

Let us not forget the recent 90-second General Motors spot on the Superbowl. The skit captures the very feel that Dr. Evil now Dr. Good as he interacts with his son and cohorts.

Whether the fourth movie will be for theatrical release or in direct to video or streaming is anyone’s guess. What we know is that studios nowadays are looking into “dependable titles” to pick up for future projects. Austin Powers still has a lot of potential. Given the right writing and production, it could re-establish itself as a “palette cleanser” of over-the-top action movies. The franchise is ripe for the picking. General Motors even proved it.
