Michael Giacchino’s Werewolf By Night First Baffled Kevin Feige

Initial pitch of Michael Giacchino about Werewolf By Night baffled Kevin Feige but the studio head humored the idea. Sometimes ideas come practically or even automatically. There are times it comes weird surprisingly. The same could be said for the pitch that MCU veteran composer turned director Michael Giacchino made to Marvel Studio President Kevin Feige.

In a report from screenrant, Werewolf By Night seemed to start off with just a stone’s throw to the moon. but, one developing question led to another and here we are anticipating the Halloween special arriving on Disney Plus.

Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino answered Kevin Feige’s question as to what he wants to do next. Perhaps the question came under the context that the composer has already accomplished so much through the MCU and Disney. Feige wondered what he would like to do to keep himself challenged. After making his musical mark through Up, Ratatouille, and Thor: Love & Thunder among other projects, what is next?

The upcoming director shared his answer in the recent D23 event. He said:

It was funny because [Kevin Feige] was talking to me and said, ‘So what would you want to do?’ And I was like, ‘I want to do Werewolf by Night.’ And he looked at me like, ‘Really? Like really? Werewolf-‘ I’m like, ‘Yeah, that’s what I want.’ He was like, ‘Wow. Okay, alright. Let’s talk about that.’ And the conversation just kept going, and going, and going, and then, and here we are now.

This also gives audiences insight as to how Feige moves within his people. He listens. Not a lot of companies would have that kind of mentoring from its top management. It also shows how Feige keeps his people on their toes to think of creative pursuits. Comparing Werewolf By Night with all the existing Disney Plus projects from Marvel Studios, it’s really looking like an orange among apples. Not to mean that the show won’t be something to look forward to, absolutely not. In fact, fans can’t wait to watch the hour-long special. More importantly, as with other projects, fans want to see how the Halloween special will fit in the MCU.

What will Werewolf By Night actually bring to the MCU floor? Right off the bat, the trailer excited many fans. Also, it piqued the interest of many who are not familiar with the character. The special is Giacchino’s first directorial project within the MCU. His other works at the helm are Star Trek: Short Treks and Monster Challenge.

It’s great to know that people in Marvel Studios have creative choice. Of course, these ideas have to coincide with the grand picture that Feige has in mind. But, the bottom line the heart of the production comes from someone who is truly down with the idea. This is also why Marvel has successfully established its brand as a world-building franchise. Characters popular in the mainstream share screen time with others that aren’t so. Eventually, not-so familiar characters get their own time to shine. It’s evident with Guardians of the Galaxy, a group that started out with members not generally known to the movie going public.

Michael Giacchino’s Werewolf By Night may have initially baffled Kevin Feige. But the fact that it’s release is happening this October means there is more to it than just one special.
