Obi Wan: When the time comes, he must be trained.

to which Owen responds: Like you trained his father?

This interaction alone very possibly encapsulates the whole series for Obi-Wan Kenobi. His promise to Qui Gon Jinn still ties him to his mission. As someone who has seen Anakin as a brother, he is protective of Luke. He is also protective of the hope that Luke represents for the whole galaxy. Owen’s question hit him hard as they both know what happened to Anakin.

Owen means to protect in a way that the more Luke is unaware of his past and parentage the safer he will be. However, Obi-Wan’s position is that it is better prepare Luke for what is to come.

Despite the Empire’s successful domination after the events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, they still know that Obi-Wan’s existence is still a threat. This makes the galaxy even smaller for Obi Wan as every bounty hunter is out to get him. Ultimately, he has to face Darth Vader.

From the get-go, the moment they announced this series, Obi-Wan and Darth Vader’s duel is teased. It is what fans are waiting for after Battle of the Heroes or their duel in Mustafar. Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen have prepared for it as well.

There are scenes in the trailer that show places other than Tatooine or Mos Espa. It is also likely that Mustafar will be featured in the series. Darth Vader’s ominous presence from his artificial arm to his breath in the end of the trailer promises his strength emanating from the dark side.

We will soon see the struggle Obi-Wan had to go through all those years prior to Star Wars: A New Hope. His intention to bring Anakin back from the dark side could still be in this series. Another point to anticipate is the possibility of seeing his own Master as well.

May the Force be with you!
