Marvel Studios has been pushing out a lot of ideas lately, and this time, they are reportedly developing a series with Korg as the main lead with Taika Waititi to reprise his role.
When we first met Korg the Kronan was in Thor: The Dark World. Although that version of Korg was immediately killed off and they really never mentioned his name. So, it was a surprise to see Korg in Thor: Ragnarok.
And what a delight he was each time he showed up on screen. That large boulder-like rock character but has that small voice, was fun to watch. The director of Thor: Ragnarok himself Taika Waititi voicing Korg was an odd choice but certainly unexpected and funny.

I worried that he might have died by Thanos’ hands in Avengers: Infinity War, but it’s a relief that his brief appearance in Avengers: Endgame assured us that he survived Thanos’ attack. And Korg again showed up in the Free Guy trailer review with Deadpool (played by Ryan Reynolds).
But with all of his appearance, we didn’t really expect that he’d get his own show. But then again, why not?
It has been reported by Giant Freaking Robot (so take it with a grain of salt) that Taika Waititi’s Korg is in early development as a series for Disney Plus. Now, we aren’t sure what Marvel is conjuring up for the rock race Kronan. But if it’s Taika Waititi behind it, it may be a fun and interesting ride. Waititi has had recent success with his TV series lately, like What We Do In The Shadows (2019-2021), Wellington Paranormal (2018-2022) and Reservation Dogs (2022).
Taika Waititi’s background in film making focuses a lot on comedy. If you’ve noticed, a lot of Marvel’s shows are focused on magic and fantasy like WandaVision and Loki. Falcon and the Winter Soldier on the other hand are more like political and terrorism. We haven’t seen anything light or comedy. Of course, all the shows have their own touch of comedy, but not straight up comedy. We presume that Marvel has been building up it’s dark or heavy action line up like Daredevil and The Punisher.

And there is no hiding that Marvel is also building up it’s horror line up with Halloween specials with Werewolf by Night, Man-Thing and Mephisto. Maybe that is why Taika Waititi is now considered to make Korg more of a comedy series.
So, what can we expect with Taika Waititi’s Korg? Will it be like a documentary style like What We Do In The Shadows and Wellington Paranormal? Showing the daily struggles of a Korg in New Asgard? A day and life with Korg and Miek? Will Korg have his showdown with Noobmaster69 named Aaron from Apple Inc?
Taika Waititi’s Korg will be showing up in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder this July 8, 2022.
