Marvel Studios just released official trailer for the upcoming Disney Plus Halloween Special Werewolf By Night. Fresh from D23 happenings, Marvel Entertainment Channel on YouTube has the official trailer. And, it pleases fans rooting for something new from the studio.
First off, the most readily noticeable aspect is the black-and-white form of the special. Immediately, viewers know this isn’t a regular MCU show. As it’s a Halloween Special for Disney Plus, Werewolf By Night presents several characters from the darker side of the MCU. Ultimately, the whole trailer gave off the combination of classic Twilight Zone television series and spy games such as Clue, Resistance and, well yes, Werewolf.
Disney Plus describes the upcoming special:
On a dark and somber night, a secret cabal of monster hunters emerge from the shadows and gather at the foreboding Bloodstone Temple following the death of their leader. In a strange and macabre memorial to the leader’s life, the attendees are thrust into a mysterious and deadly competition for a powerful relic—a hunt that will ultimately bring them face to face with a dangerous monster.

Right off the bat, a certain event, presumably the leader’s death, brings together the characters into a dark mansion. Also, assumed to be the Bloodstone Temple. The narrator immediately says:
This Halloween, you can’t escape the shock, the terror of Werewolf By Night.
At once, Verusa speaks next in what seems to be a ‘briefing’ as to why the people are there.
Tonight, it is every hunter for themselves.
By the end of the introduction, Ulysses wishes the participants luck:
Goodluck! I will be rotting for you!
Again, Verusa speaks over the trailer saying:
But one of you is a monster. Masquerading as one of our own. I can’t wait to find out what breed of evil you are.
Then, a succession of creep-fest clips follow with Verusa prodding:
You’ll want to see this darling!
Audience will see Jack pleading:
Please don’t do this!
Then Jovan screams:
Death is coming for you!
Another flash of fight and attack clips that quickly shows various pivotal points in the story including a glimpse of Man-Thing. Finally, Elsa Bloodstone appears in the last seconds of the trailer witnessing a monstrous transformation. In the end, the classic film seems to burn as the trailer ends with the Disney Plus logo.
The channel uploaded the video with the following description that states the special’s release date on Disney Plus:
There’s no escaping the night.

In a report from Variety, the idea that even though Werewolf by Night will be a one-off special for the Halloween, he may appear in other projects. For quite some time now, viewers and MCU fans have taken note that the studio has been treading the darker pages of the Marvel comics. From Scarlet Witch’s WandaVision that started to play the Darkhold and Chaos Magic more prominently to Doctor Strange gaining his third eye. Recently, even Moon Knight which featured ancient Egyptian gods and goddesses contribute to the supernatural side of the MCU. Thus, Werewolf by Night is another storyline that adds to that darker world. Furthermore, let us not forget the upcoming Blade with Mahershala Ali.
Undeniably, many issues in the Marvel comics cover stories that bring these characters together. Not to mention the Midnight Sons, the team that Howard Mackie and Andy Kubert created first released in Ghost Rider (Volume 3) #31 in November. 1992. Team members are Wong, Doctor Strange, Morbius, Blade, Doctor Voodoo, Elsa Bloodstone, Man-Thing and others including Werewolf by Night.
The Halloween Special stars Gael Garcia Bernal as Jack Russell. Due to a family curse Russell transforms into Werewolf by Night. In the comics, he takes control of his cursed form using the strength and abilities to be a hero in the night. Meanwhile, Laura Donnelly is Elsa Bloodstone. Other cast members are Harriet Sansom Harris as Verusa, Eugenie Bondurant as Linda, Kirk R. Thatcher as Jovan and Al Hamacher as Billy Swan.
Werewolf by Night is under the direction of Michael Giacchino from Heather Quinn’s writing with Peter Cameron co-writing the teleplay.
