Not long after Justin Lin stepping away from being the director of Fast X, Louis Leterrier is now top choice as his replacement.
It’s highly possible that Primetime Emmy Award winning director Louis Leterrier will take over the helm of Fast X. A report from Deadline states this top choice of the production. Justin Lin is no longer directing the film but will stay on as a producer.

Leterrier is a French film producer and director. He just completed the crime-action-comedy movie The Takedown written by Stéphane Kazandjian starring Omar Sy, Laurent Lafitte, and Izïa Higelin. Leterrier also helmed the critically acclaimed The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance TV series for Netflix. Three episodes of Lupin are under his belt. It is a crime-action-drama series that Arsène Lupin inspired. Leterrier’s earlier works include The Incredible Hulk, The Brothers Grimsby, Now You See Me, Clash of the Titans, Transporter and Transporter 2.
By the sound of his previous works, he had quite a lot of experience in crime, action, and thrilling heist. These perhaps are major factors why he is the top choice for the second to the last instalment of the Fast and Furious franchise. Deadline says that Universal chief Donna Langley has a good working relationship with Leterrier. Perhaps she put in a good word for him thus he went at the top of the list of directors for the production to approach.

Current status is that he still has to be officially on board. Major consideration is the schedule and time availability. However, as they have previously cited, the production has foreseen this momentary adjustment to their schedule. The second-unit footage for Fast X is almost done. Hopefully they get to close the deal with Leterrier as Lin’s replacement in time. As of now, the studio still looks at May 19, 2023 as the release date for Fast X.
Engines are still revving while the movie’s main driver is still about to take his seat. Vin Diesel together with the cast including Charlize Theron, Jason Momoa and Brie Larson are already in the thick of preparations. Fast X still has Lin and Dan Mazeau as co-writers of the script. Joining Lin as producer are Diesel, Neal Moritz, Jeff Kirschenbaum and Samantha Vincent.
