Lance Reddick Reprises Role In John Wick Spinoff Ballerina

Lionsgate develops its first spinoff from the John Wick franchise in Ballerina and it now adds Lance Reddick to reprise his role as Charon. Yes, the concierge of the assassin neutral ground that is the Continental Hotel will be in Ballerina.

In a report from Variety, Reddick will join Ana de Armas who will be the lead role of this spin off.

Under the direction of Len Wiseman, de Armas transforms into a young female assassin out to avenge her family’s death. The movie with a script from Shay Hatten is deep in production as we speak. Officially announcing Reddick’s involvement in the production, producer Erica Lee stated:

Charon is an indispensable part of the world of Wick. It’s great to know that Lance will continue to make his mark on this franchise.

Also coming back into the franchise for the spinoff is Angelica Huston. She will once again be the Director, whose first appearance happened in John Wick: Chapter 3. Likewise, Ian McShane also returns as Winston, the Continental Hotel’s Manager. Of course, the spinoff will also see to the appearance of John Wick himself, Keanu Reeves.

Lionsgate also has Basil Iwanyk, Chad Stahelski, Brady Fujikawa and Chelsea Kujawa on board as among the producers of the movie. Seems like Lionsgate is also building its hidden-not-so-hidden world of assassins. In fact, John Wick: Chapter 4 hits theaters on March 24, 2023.

Reddick’s Charon is one of those indispensable supporting characters that solidify interconnected stories. The main plot may not revolve around them but as they are a definitive presence in the story, they become a staple for spinoffs. Similar characters are Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple in the Netflix-series-now-back-at-Marvel Jessica Jones. She was also there for the rest of the Defenders, Daredevil, Iron Fist and Luke Cage.

Recurring characters in a franchise building an expansive world cements interconnected stories. John Wick is a highly successful franchise for Lionsgate. Every iteration proves its viability after another. Thus, it may just have been inevitable that a spinoff will happen. While this may seem to have the same “revenge” angle, there may be some differences still in the execution of the story.

We look forward to seeing the Ballerina grace the silver screen.
