Kenneth Branagh continues his Hercule Poirot adaptations from Agatha Cristie novels in 20th Century Studios with A Haunting in Venice. The movie is third from the actor-director which began with 2017 Murder on the Orient Express, followed by Death on the Nile this year.
20th Century Studios moves forward with the next movie featuring the fictional Belgian detective. This, even though the second movie grossed only $137M from a $90M budget. However, this does not affect the decision of the studio to continue the franchise. In fact, Branagh is now preparing for the following feature. Moreover, Screenrant posts that the new movie entitled A Haunting in Venice will have a long list of cast of A-list talents.

To simplify, Hercule Poirot is Agatha Christie’s Sherlock Holmes. Poirot is one of Christie’s most popular fictional characters. His first appearance was in the 1920s in The Mysterious Affair at Styles. From then Christie wrote 33 novels and more than 50 short stories featuring the character. Poirot was so popular that in his fictional death, The New York Times published an obituary on its front page for the detective.
Kenneth Branagh has reputable claim to the classics as his background hails from the Shakespearean theatrical performances. His long list of acting and directing credits include titles such as Much Ado About Nothing, Hamlet, Henry V and many others. Aside from being an actor and director, he is also a critically acclaimed writer. His pen in 2021 Belfast, which he also directed, won him his Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Notably, Belfast was nominated as Best Motion Picture of the Year as well as Best Achievement in Directing.
During the release of the second movie Death on the Nile, Branagh confirmed that the third movie was still in discussion. Meanwhile, 20th Century President Steve Asbell shared at the time that the third movie already had a complete script.

A Haunting in Venice will finally arrive in theaters with Branagh returning as the renowned detective as well as its director. Michael Green has credits as the movie’s writer. Actors for the movie include Tina Fey, Jamie Dornan, Michelle Yeoh, Kyle Allen, Camille Cottin, Jude Hill, Ali Khan, Emma Laird, Kelly Reilly, and Riccardo Scamarico. The newest Poirot movie will add the supernatural element to the murder mystery genre.
Quite interesting to see how Branagh will add the scary and suspenseful vibe of haunting in the world of a character focused on logic. Until the new movies comes to theaters, fans can watch Murder on the Orient Express on Freevee, while Death on the Nile is now on Hulu and HBO Max.
Production on A Haunting in Venice starts in November with plans for September 2023 theatrical release.
