Keanu Reeves Might Direct Netflix Adaptation Of BRZRKR

Early stages of BRZRKR production for Netflix and Keanu Reeves might just not only star but may also direct the project. One of the actors that the industry and viewers genuinely love is Keanu Reeves. After his roller coaster return to stardom thanks to the John Wick franchise, the actor stays among bankable favorite names for lead. Bringing a comic book character he himself co-created to live action is not bad too. Besides, they created the character in his image so it won’t make sense to cast another actor for it.

As it appears, the actor might just add BRZRKR as a second title to his projects as a director. Collider reports that even though the actor hasn’t fully read the script yet, there’s “33%” chance he’d consider directing the project.

2013 was the year Keanu Reeves actually debuted as a director with the movie Man of Tai ChiIt’s an R rated action drama movie about a young martial artist gifted with Tai Chi skills within an underworld fight club. Many who have seen the movie we surprised to learn that Keanu Reeves was both in front and behind the camera for the production.

Meanwhile, BRZRKR is a Kickstarter project of Reeves, Matt Kindt and Ron Garney. The three men created a comic book featuring the eponymous half human half God being drawn to violence. Due to his nature, he has lived for ages yet has no full recollection of his past thus clueless as to his purpose. He eventually found his way to serve highly classified US Government missions too dangerous for any man. This existence allows him access to certain information that can lead him to answers. Answers including how to end his days.

Recently, film maker and The Sea Beast story consultant Mattson Tomlin tweeted he has finished the script for BRZRKR. The article states that Reeves confirmed he hasn’t read it through, saying:

I got it yesterday or two days ago. I haven’t read it yet.

It was at this point the actor mentioned that there’s a 33% chance he’d direct the movie. Does that mean 1 of 3 chances? Like one of the three creators of BRZRKR has already him in mind to direct the movie? Since, he himself is one of three and he is still considering, we wonder which one from Kindt or Garney is pushing the bright idea? But that’s just us.

Reeves’ main consideration to actually jump on the director’s chair will be the script. As with what transpired with Man of Tai Chi, he felt strongly for the script he helped write. Thus, he didn’t want anyone else to film it. He shared:

I know how it’s a lot of work, but the film that I directed, Man of Tai Chi, was born, I became the director because I was part of the writing process, and I didn’t want to hand it over. I was like, oh, okay, I have to direct this.

He then also disclosed that he isn’t at that point yet for the Netflix adaptation of BRZRKR. Though, he may be open to be a co-director. His words:

I’m not quite there yet on ‘BRZRKR’. I have to read the script, but I’m also interested in having a collaborator and what they could bring to it.

Consequently, Man of Tai Chi got a 71% rating on the Tomatometer. That’s not actually bad for a first and only directorial stint for the legendary Keanu Reeves.
