Jordan Elsass won’t return as Jonathan Kent in CW’s Superman & Lois Season 3, now production seeks to recast the character. In a surprising development, production for the third season of CW’s Superman & Lois finds itself in a predicament. Since Elsass did not appear to reconvene with the cast in Vancouver, the character will now have to find a new actor.
Deadline reports the reason behind his absence and the actor is not setting different priorities. Apparently, Elsass is experiencing serious personal issues. Some sources say it’s along the lines of mental health issues. Subsequently, other information behind his inability to report to work on call-time is also CoVid related.

According to the article, Elsass has unclear information about his CoVid vaccination status. As a health and safety policy, Canada has rules about not allowing unvaccinated people into the country. This however, is not too relevant to the reason since Elsass did not even try to get into Canada where the studio scheduled the production
The series producer from Warner Bros. TV stated:
Jordan Elsass has notified the Studio that he will not be returning to Superman & Lois for season three due to personal reasons. The role of Jonathan Kent will be recast
Superman & Lois is a surviving series from the Arrowverse. Todd Helbing and Gregg Berlanti developed it for The CW and premiered February 2021. The series stars Tyler Hoechlin as Superman and Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois. In the story, Elsass portrays one of their sons. Specifically, Jonathan Kent until season 2. Although, the series itself is not particularly showcasing Arrowverse connections. The creators emphasize that the similar characters in the Arrowverse are different versions of the characters in the show. Specifically, the world where Superman & Lois is is a world that is just parallel to those that have appeared in the Arrowverse.

Greg Berlanti is among the very few showrunners who are able to weave several DC franchises together. It all began with Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen aka Arrow then Grant Gustin as Barry Allen aka The Flash. Other characters that they were able to rope in especially during crossover events were Melissa Benoist’s Kara Danvers aka Supergirl. The rest is DC television history.
The production did not reveal any other detail as to the development of the third season. Whether this will affect the duration of the shoots in Vancouver may still be under wraps. Representatives from Jordan Elsass side have yet to make an official statement.
