Jon Favreau Says Mandalorian 3 Is Much Bigger

Coming from CCXP 2022 in Brazil, series showrunner Jon Favreau shared that the upcoming Mandalorian 3 is much bigger. Favreau and co-creator Dave Filoni appeared at the convention through a video and talked about the upcoming third season.

Many fans noted that Favreau teased viewers to expect a broader coverage of story. Furthermore, there will be more details pertaining to the favorite character in the series other than the Mandalorian himself.

If the showrunners would say that the story would be bigger, perhaps it’s because the original story arc has been resolved. Specifically, the mission of Din Djarin, where he means to bring the Child Grogu to his people, is already over. He is the Child’s people now. A bigger story beyond that mission will then unfold. If the end of Season 2 is any indication, there is the rising question as to who will lead the Mandalorians?

While he won the Darksaber from Moff Gideon, Bo-Katan Kryze has been in pursuit of the Moff to claim her birthright. Now, she has to challenge Din Djarin for it. An article from Movieweb quotes the showrunners who said:

I will say that the scope of it is getting bigger, we have really cool space battles, we have lots of Mandalorians, we have the planet of Mandalore which we’ve been talking about for a long time.

All the more this information convinces us to think that part, if not all, of the beginning of the season is about the Mandalorian leadership. Another reminder is that in their culture, Din is no longer considered as a Mandalorian. That is because he has removed his helmet. That is the way. However, that fact may be rendered insignificant compared to the fact that Din defeated Moff Gideon and acquired the Darksaber. But, again, who are we to know?

Meanwhile, we only have to wait until March 1 to see Pedro Pascal return as Din Djarin. Joining him for the third season are Carl Weathers as Greef Karga, Omid Abtahi as Dr. Pershing, Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon, Emily Swallow as The Armorer and Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze.

Apart from the bigger story, Mandalorian 3 promises the return of a number of characters from the previous season. Favreau declares:

We get to see the Mandalorian culture, and many of the wonderful actors you’ve seen in previous seasons return, and you’ll see them all work together on this show. It’s been a very ambitious season, a lot of our directors have returned, we have a very experienced team that have been working together for a long time and I think a lot of people are going to enjoy what we have in store.

Arguably, Mandalorian is the series that revived the interest of the fandom to the Star Wars franchise. It showed that there is so much story that we can learn from a long time ago in the galaxy far, far away. Could fans see the return of Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano?

Everyone will find out starting March 1, 2023. That is the way.
