John Wick Prequel The Continental Goes To Peacock

Popular movie franchise John Wick starring Keanu Reeves gets its prequel series The Continental now in Peacock instead of Starz. Initially, Starz gave the greenlight to the prequel way back 2018. But now, Peacock has landed the series as it also streams the John Wick movies in its platform.

Recently, Variety reports the move stating the series will be composed of three episodes exploring the origin story of The Continental Hotel during 1975. Whereas, production revolves around a young Winston Scott that Colin Woodell will portray. Specifically, the character is based on Ian McShane’s role in the movies.

Further, the article writes the series premise as:

Winston is dragged through 1975 New York to face a past he thought he’d left behind. In an attempt to seize control of the iconic hotel, Winston charts a deadly course through the mysterious underworld of New York City.

Notably, it resembles the movie’s story of John Wick where an assassin initially leaves his life of killing for a peaceful time with his wife. It seems that the series will depict John Wick’s personality echoing that of Winston’s experience in the past. They have something in common. But, the difference lies on the events that follow. The Continental will have a different set of events that push Winston back to his old life.

Kelly Campbell actively pursued the move from Starz to Peacock streaming service. As President of Peacock and Direct-to-Consumer, Campbell said:

The ‘John Wick’ films have become a global phenomenon, are among the most watched titles on Peacock and we are thrilled and honored to partner with Lionsgate to extend this incredible franchise. We understand the value of a global franchise and Val Boreland and team knew that by bringing this special event series to Peacock and putting the full power of NBCUniversal behind it, the premiere of ‘The Continental’ will be the streaming event of the year.

Val Boreland, Executive Vice President and Head of Content Acquisitions for NBCUniversal led the negotiations. Together with Boreland, Jim Packer, President of Worldwide Television and Digital Distribution for Lionsgate was instrumental in the deal with Peacock.
