Keeping the story within the ‘family’, Ghostbusters: Afterlife director Jason Reitman passes his directorship of the sequel to Gil Kenan. Just a few months ago, Reitman and Kenan announced that they were writing the follow up story about the Spengler family legacy.
Now, Deadline reports that Reitman will assume the writer and producer position same with Kenan. Also, Jason Blumenfeld is on board as producer. Considering the same people will be behind the camera for the project, audiences and fans do not expect a change. In terms of production the people will be the same.

Speaking of people involved with the project, the report proceeds to tell that the original ensemble will be back for the sequel. Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon will reprise their roles. Actors portraying key roles in the 2021 movie will also be back for Ghostbusters 2. We expect McKenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, Logan Kim and Celeste O’Connor would be among them. The characters will be back and the sequel might just take place in New York.
Fans remember Ernie Hudson as Winston showing up in the 2021 movie and he is back at the headquarters. At the time, he seemed intent on reviving the old operation at the firehouse. Perhaps that will be a part of, if not THE, story.
Sharing his perspective on the upcoming project Kenan says:
It’s an absolute honor to pick up the proton pack and step behind the camera for the next chapter of the Spengler family saga. I just wish I could go back to 1984 and tell the kid in the sixth row of the Mann Valley West that one day he was going to get to direct a Ghostbusters film.
That absolutely sounded like a pitch for another movie, right? Meanwhile, Reitman, honors his father in the project. He shares:
A few years ago, my father handed me the keys to Ecto-1, and together we made Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Words will never express how grateful I am to have made a film with my father by my side. It’s now time to hand those keys to my creative partner and fellow Ghostbuster Gil Kenan, a brilliant director who will keep the Spengler spirit alive. I can only hope to provide him the same producorial care and support that my father showed me.

Indeed, having written and directed a follow up movie to the classic Ghostbusters with the man who was there ever since is phenomenal. Reitman knew Ghostbusters as a child. He knew the wonder behind it all. Now, he passes the torch to the person who wrote the movie that revived the franchise with him.
Moreover, it’s awesome that as a child, Kenan, drew wonder in the original movies as well. Many are looking forward to seeing more stories about the Spengler family. We are curious as to what story will they be featuring next.
