James Gunn agrees with Karen Gillan’s statement that the upcoming Holiday Special of Guardians of the Galaxy is the best one yet.
In a report from Screenrant, Nebulla actress Karen Gillan says the upcoming holiday special of Guardians of the Galaxy is going to be extremely funny. Director James Gunn could not agree more. He says he looks forward to seeing new cuts from his editor Greg ‘One G’ D’Auria every weekend.

The details are being kept under wraps for the Holiday Special and the third movie, which is the final for this GOG team. However, these are some information we know so far.
- Of course, as Marvel.com previously announced, the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special cast includes Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldaña, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, and Sean Gunn.
- James Gunn revealed that great new MCU characters will be introduced in the Holiday Special.
- The third movie of The Guardians of the Galaxy will be the last movie that Gunn and Dave Bautista, Drax actor, will be involved in.
- Yondu will not live again. Gunn has been quoted saying that for as long as he is connected to GOG, Yondu’s sacrifice remains intact. His words:
As I’ve said many times before, as long as I’m a part of the Guardians, Yondu is dead, 100%, forever, no magic resurrections. Any other way would be belittling his sacrifice and what his story means to so many people. - Will Poulter will star as Adam Warlock.
- Chukwudi Iwuji will play a mysterious character in GOG volume 3.
- Fans expect Poulter and Iwuji to appear with at least a cameo on the Holiday Special before the third movie.
- Scenes in the upcoming Holiday Special will feature Earth. An article from the Direct showed police cars parked then flipped in front of houses decorated in line with the Christmas season.

- Gunn is actually a bit jealous of the Holiday Special script. Specifically, he says
I’m almost jealous of it, even though I wrote it because people freak out so much on how much they love the script for the holiday special that I’m almost like, ‘Well, wait. I’ve got this movie here I’ve been working on for two years. You love the holiday special that I literally wrote in a very short amount of time.’ - Gillan’s Instagram story confirms that the third GOG movie will be dark as described by Gunn and bittersweet. Actress Zoe Saldana says
I think it’s going to be the best one yet. [The shoot is] a bittersweet moment because it is our understanding that this will be the last Guardians of the Galaxy. So it’s bitter in that sense, but it’s sweet because we are all very grateful to have lived this journey together and James Gunn really is giving us a beautiful ending, and this story is really compelling.
It definitely seems that Director Gunn is pulling out all the stops for the Holiday Special and third movie of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Indeed, the gang deserves the best send off especially if the third movie is the last movie for this team. A lot of people did not know of them prior to the release of the first movie. Now, people are excited and sad at the same time knowing that these two projects are the last they will see from Gunn about GOG.
