In a British Film Institute event hosted by chairman Tim Richards, Barbara Broccoli stated that they mean to reinvent 007 James Bond. Thus, she sees filming for a new movie with a new actor after Daniel Craig will not be earlier than two years.
At present, Deadline reports that the producer also disclosed that no one is in the running for the next Bond… James Bond. This is because they are still working on a new approach to the character.
In 1953, Ian Fleming created the James Bond character though his novels. Bond is a British secret agent of MI6 with the code name 007. Actors who portrayed James Bond are Sean Connery, David Niven, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. Eon Productions hold the adaptation rights to all of Fleming’s Bond literature ever since producers Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman purchased it in 1961. Broccoli and Saltzman founded Eon Productions and started with their movies with Sean Connery as the titular character.

Now Eon Productions is headed by half-siblings Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. With almost 30 movies featuring several actors, Eon Productions has taken care of the franchise for decades. For all the movies under their belt, Eon has produced James Bond movies worth about $1.8B that grossed over $7B in the worldwide box office. Suffice to say, James Bond has a very solid fan base.
With the fate of Daniel Craig’s Bond in No Time To Die, his tenure as the double O agent has ended. Because of this, there have been rumors of who will be the new Bond. Including Regé-Jean Page, Henry Cavill, Tom Hardy, Richard Madden, Idris Elba, Cillian Murphy and several others. But it seems that Eon Productions haven’t decided yet. Broccoli has said:
Nobody’s in the running. We’re working out where to go with him, we’re talking that through. There isn’t a script and we can’t come up with one until we decide how we’re going to approach the next film because, really, it’s a reinvention of Bond. We’re reinventing who he is and that takes time. I’d say that filming is at least two years away.
James Bond Producer Barbara Broccoli Plans To Reinvent 007
Would this fan base be ready for a reinvention of their well-admired character? Just how much reinvention and what aspect of James Bond would there be any reinvention needed? His character is always shrouded with mystery. There is no specific origin because he is a secret agent. One who is good at being a secret agent. He moves covertly while being cool and ultimately saves the day. From conspiracy theories that may pit countries together to the world actually ending, these are stories up his alley. People still like those line of stories.
While change is indeed the only thing that is constant in any endeavor, the fact that there will be a new actor for the role is already a reinvention. Some are suggesting they may be updating their fan base profile or targeting a specific set of the market. However, we do have to trust that they are leaving no stone unturned in assessing their options. Like they say, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel or at least you don’t have to fix it if it isn’t broken.
