HBO dropped its sentence and Westworld will no longer have additional seasons in the future. Warner Bros Discovery is still ‘cleaning house’. Unfortunately, for fans of the dystopian sci-fi series, HBO pulled the reigns to a complete stop. Deadline reports that the series will no longer have succeeding seasons despite the unresolved plot points from Season 4.
The intriguing twists and turns between the humans and robots called hosts, will no longer be straightened out. At least, as of this moment. Who knows if fans would be able to accomplish the feat of convincing the production to at least release a special to gain series closure.

Creators and showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy adapted Michael Crichton’s 1973 eponymous movie for the small screen. They debuted the series as the most successful first season of all in HBO. In 2016, it bagged the Most Exciting New Series Award from Critics’ Choice Television Awards.
Seasons 1 and 2 starred Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Robert Ford who co-founded the Westworld attraction. The show finished four seasons with the latest episode that streamed August 14 this year. The rest of the ensemble include Evan Rachel Wood, Thandiwe Newton, Tessa Thompson, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, James Marsden and many others.
Naturally, fans received the news of HBO canceling Westworld with great disappointment. Knowing that the next season is to be the finale, they now have the frustration of not knowing how everything wraps up.

Still, if one looks at the way the series has been performing per season, the data will support HBO’s decision to discontinue the series. Checking on tvseriesfinale.com, the number of viewers per season reflect a downtrend. From Season 1 having 1.82M average viewers per episode, it went 1.57M for Season 2. Then it slid down further to 0.812M for Season 3. Finally, it reflects the lowest number of viewers at 0.35M with Season 4.
Comment on social media reflect that some viewers have indeed stopped watching after the second half of Season 3. There are comments stating that HBO should have cancelled them earlier as the series lost its appeal after Season 2. Still, there are fans who wish to at least get the ending they were expecting to see. For that, the audience can only wait and hope for it to happen.
