Finally, the scoop that has been going around about Harrison Ford being the new Thunderbolt Ross in the MCU is now official! Deadline reports that the Indiana Jones star and Star Wars alum will first appear in 2024 Captain America: New World Order with Anthony Mackie. This we also reported less than a week ago. Ford appears first in the Captain America movie then later in Thunderbolts.
While the article did not mention Ford’s Ross is due to transform into the Red Hulk, that still is questionable. Joining Ford and Mackie in the upcoming MCU movie are Shira Haas, Tim Blake Nelson and Carl Lumbly among others. Director Julius Onah is at its helm with Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson as the pen.
Harrison Ford As MCU Thunderbolt Ross Now Official
In Marvel comics, Thunderbolt Ross is one of the primary opponents for The Incredible Hulk. He is father to Bruce Banner’s girlfriend Betty Ross. This need to recast and ensure General Ross appears in future movies only add to the rumor that the Red Hulk is coming.
While many fans are positive about casting Harrison Ford for MCU’s Thunderbolt Ross, some are having doubts and questions. Prior to the late William Hurt, multi-award-winning and Oscar-nominated actor Sam Elliott took on the role. This was for the 2003 movie Hulk starring Eric Bana for the titular role with Jennifer Connelly as Betty.
We doubt if Marvel will categorically share the reason why they chose Ford. However, Ford’s name still truly pulls interest in a project. No doubt, even if only out of curiosity, fans will troop into theaters to see how Harrison Ford delivers Thunderbolt Ross. Everyone will find out, come May 3, 2024.

Harrison Ford is among the very few Oscar-nominated actors in the industry who can boast several main franchises to his name. From Jack Ryan, Deckard, Han Solo and Indiana Jones, Ford now adds Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross to his well-curated characters. Since Ford seems to be collecting Disney franchises to his belt, Star Wars and Indiana Jones from Lucasfilm and Ross from Marvel Studios, the 80 year old actor might just even have other roles up his sleeve.
