In the D23 red carpet, Phase Zero got to talk to Don Cheadle about he upcoming Armor Wars on Disney Plus and the actor shared some details. It’s been quite a while that Armor Wars has been on the MCU pipeline. Although, it appears that the story requires a lot of development and prelude until it finally takes its turn into production. Back in 2020, Kevin Feige presented Armor Wars as part of Phase 4. In the presentation, he described the project as a series that show what it would be like if Tony Stark’s technology falls into the wrong hands.
Definitely, this fits perfectly during a time immediately after Iron Man Tony Stark’s death. However, certain tweaks could have required other storylines to move ahead of Armor Wars for it to make better sense.

In the YouTube video, Cheadle answered where Rhodey would be without his best friend:
(Rhodey would be) at a very different place, something that I can’t really talk about. But, it’s going to be very surprising to a lot of people.
The great thing is that there’s gonna be so much opportunity to learn a lot about him and for him to learn about himself. And for us, hopefully, to really be able to get behind what makes him tick.
When Brandon Davis asked the actor what it has been like for him after Endgame being a veteran in the MCU with all the new faces, he answers:
I think that’s what’s the fun of it. You know? How expansive it can be. That we don’t ‘lose’ the old characters but we bring in new characters. And then we get to bring the new and the old characters together. And, that creates it’s own sort of thing. So that’s the most fun, being in these shows.
The opportunity to like, cross-pollinate each other’s projects and find ways that these relationships can continue to work and conflicts that we can continue to cook up. And, I think they do a great job of it. Always making it interesting and exciting in things you can’t really anticipate.

After Davis asked him about Armor Wars, he disclosed:
If you know anything about the lore and you’ve read the comic books, you understand that its a series that’s built around Tony’s Stark tech getting out. And, Rhodey, taking in on to get this tech back from the bad hands.
As Marvel does, it’s also an opportunity to take the mythology and tip it on its head a little bit. And come up with different ways to tell the story. So, it’s doing that and it’s done that in spades.
Taking in what Cheadle has shared in the interview and adding the list of projects yet to come, we wonder if Rhodey got replaced by a Skrull. Consider his terminology, where he said the character is in a different place. Other than mourning the loss of Stark, this could mean he is physically in a different place. Literally. Add to this, the statement that it can surprise a lot of people.
On top of it all, fans also expect his participation in the Secret Wars. Thus, the story within Secret Invasion may very well be connected with Armor Wars in more ways than most think.
