Disney Wants CGI Carrie Fisher Back For More Star Wars Projects

Disney is interested to use CGI again to resurrect Carrie Fisher’s Leia Organa for more Star Wars projects.

It’s not news that Lucasfilm and Disney have been using deep fake technology for the past few years. They have been doing their best to recreate the technology and even hired the best ones around to improve their delivery.

Just watching The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett has proven that they are slowly perfecting the technology. In the two series, the recreating Luke’s younger self is not an easy feat. Going back even further, Disney has used this in Rogue One by recreating Grand Moff Tarkin with a CGI version of Peter Cushing.

It’s not only limited to Lucasfilm either, Disney has used CGI to make younger versions of Robert Downey JrMichael DouglasMichelle PfeifferAlfred Molina, and other actors in the Marvel films.

What makes this different from Mark Hamill reprising his role as Luke Skywalker, is that Carrie Fisher already passed away in 2016. So any new scenes will require a stand-in. In Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker when they shot a younger version of Leia Organa, they used Leia’s daughter Billie Lourd as Leia’s stand-in. And if ever, how extensive will the character’s scenes be? In the Book of Boba Fett, the Luke Skywalker scenes were surprisingly a lot more than what fans expected. Will Leia have the same amount of time onscreen in the series?

It has been reported by Giant Freakin Robot that Disney is planning to use a CGI version of Carrie Fisher. This is for an upcoming Star Wars series. The question is: which one? There are several projects that could fit in Leia’s return. If you notice, Lucasfilm has been focusing a lot on the timeline very close to the original Star Wars trilogy.

I doubt that they will need to have the CGI in Andor which is set five years before the events of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Leia would be just a young teenager at that point.

The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett are set a few years after Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. Both of those series could have Leia. We could even include Ashoka as a possible series that could include her too. It would be nice to see Leia meet her father’s padawan.

We are excited to see what Disney is looking into. We’ve seen Peter Cushing revived for Rogue One and even though it was not perfect, fans still appreciated his appearance. Regardless, this is a sensitive issue, but it’s more for Carrie Fisher’s family to decide.
