Disney Plus Dropped Andor Trailer With 3-Episode Premiere Announcement

Disney Plus has dropped the trailer for its newest Star Wars series Andor announcing it to have 3 episodes on its premiere on September 21.

The Star Wars YouTube channel has the trailer uploaded since yesterday. Already, the series is promising the epic story carrying the beginnings of the rebellion. Andor appears to feature more than one planet for the whole duration of the series. It also appears that there will be varied timelines. Familiar and new characters show up as audiences are expecting.

The timeline of the main story encompass the period before Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

The trailer introduced the landscape of a lush mountain. Characters seem to be the locals of the planet subjected to the authority of the Galactic Empire. A Star Destroyer looms overhead covering the landscape in what seems to be foreboding doom.

Next scene we hear Cassian as voiced and portrayed by Diego Luna.

Cassian Andor: To steal from the Empire? You just walk in like you belong. They’re so proud of themselves. They’re so fat and satisfied. They can’t imagine that someone like me would ever get inside their house.

During this statement a child enters what seems to be a station. Then Luna as Cassian comes to frame in uniform.

Stellan Skarsgard is Luthen as revealed in the captions of the trailer. Andor series seem to have him at the center of the development of the rebellion. His lines:

Luthen: Cassian Andor, the Empire is choking us so slowly. We’re starting not to notice. What I’m asking is this: wouldn’t you rather give it all to something real?

Luthen: I need all the heroes I can get.

Among the familiar characters is Saw Gerrera whom Forest Whitaker portrays in the series. Gerrera will be a welcome sight for fans of Rogue One, Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. His point of view towards the Empire may just be the most violent and ruthless within the Rebel Alliance ranks.

Because of his presence, people speculate that there may be an appearance from Ewan McGregor’s Obi Wan Kenobi and Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano. But, that is just speculation.

His exchange with Luthen:

Saw Gerrera: For the greater good.

Luthen: Call it what you will.

Saw Gerrera: Let’s call it… War.

Other characters the caption reveals are Sgt. Linus Mosk, Dedra Meero, Kleya and Tay Kolma.

Genevieve O’Reilly’s Mon Mothma is also in the series actively working in the formation of the Rebel Alliance while deflecting Imperial impressions. Her line:

Mon Mothma: As long as everyone thinks I am an irritation, there’s a good chance they’ll miss what I’m really doing.

Scenes showing different aspects of the Rebel Alliance development are given a sneak peek in the trailer. The story covers what looks like a deeper depiction of Cassian’s origin. Mon Mothma and Luthen features what would be the political aspect of the alliance.

It’s interesting how Andor can shed light to the stories happening yet untold within the events of the Skywalker saga. The series gives the impression that this is a Star Wars story where there is not a Jedi or Force-sensitive character in the main leads.

Star Wars has truly grown in development of stories beyond Luke, Leia, Obi Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader and everyone from the original trilogy. The particular gap in time from Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope alone has brought forth so many stories. And it brings even more possibilities for future storytelling.

However, the challenge is still telling a good tale despite the fact that the audience already know what is going to happen. At the same time, tell it compellingly while keeping true to its canon.

We look forward to the creation and fortification of the Rebel Alliance. Disney Plus series Andor premieres with three episodes on September 21.
