Blizzard’s latest mobile game Diablo Immortal is to be released on PC too with cross-play enabled this June.
When Blizzard first announced Diablo Immortal during the BizzCon 2018, it received a lot of negative response from the audience. It was Blizzard’s main highlight of the event. Diablo Immortal is a free-to-play mobile game. Android and iOS were it’s primary platform of choice by the developers. Blizzard Entertainment in partnership with NetEase developed this mobile version of Diablo. No mention of a PC version or even a new Diablo for the PC. This disappointed fans mainly because most of them are PC and console gamers. It felt like Blizzard alienated the primary audience. Some even considered it a late April Fools joke. Lead game designer Wyatt Cheng even asked the audience:
Do you guys don’t have phones?

The announcement went so badly that Cheng’s phone response even became a meme on it’s own.
But as the years went by the continuous updates and the announcement of a new Diablo 4 for the PC has softened the negative impression towards the game. They have even done private alpha and beta tests for the public. And the tests have gained more positive praise. Lucky testers described it to be a full fledged Diablo game. IGN even mentioned that all the gameplay elements for players to enjoy the game are not locked out with a paywall.
Blizzard directly announced that a PC version will be simultaneously released along with the mobile version. This is a positive surprise for a lot of gamers who are looking forward to try the new free-to-play version of Diablo. Even though there has been an increase in mobile gaming for the past years, there is no denying that there is still a strong PC fan base of the Diablo franchise. Not only that, they also have added controller support.

The announcement also included a release date for the mobile version of Diablo Immortal, which is in June 2, 2022. It’s just a couple of months from now. The PC version will go into open BETA upon its release. With cross-play enabled, for sure that there will be a lot of players looking forward to play together regardless of being on the PC or mobile device when the game finally comes out.
Blizzard has its big name to live up to. Players call games with similar styles of gameplay as Diablo-like games. They call this genre an action role playing game. The original game Diablo (1997) practically invented the genre. Now there are tons of mobile games that has established themselves like Titan Quest, Dungeon Hunter 5 or Raziel: Dungeon Arena. In the PC space, we have Path of Exile and the recently released Torchlight: Infinite.
With the release in just a couple of months. Are you planning to play the new Diablo Immortal?
