CW announces early renewal of series for “The Flash“, “Superman & Lois“, “Walker“, “All American“, “Kung Fu“, “Riverdale” and “Nancy Drew“.
In a report from Variety.com, Mark Pedowitz, chairman and CEO of The CW Network said
As we prepare for the 2022-23 season, these scripted series, along with the alternative series we renewed earlier, will serve as the start of a solid foundation utilizing some of our most-watched series for us to build on for next year and beyond. These dramas are also important to our overall digital strategy, as they are some of our most-streamed and socially-engaged programming, and we look forward to adding more new and returning series to help strengthen and expand our multiplatform footprint.

The above scripted series will be entering the next installment of their stories, “The Flash” for Season 9, “Kung Fu” for Season 3, “All American” for Season 5, “Nancy Drew” for Season 4, “Riverdale” for Season 7, “Walker” for Season 3, and “Superman & Lois” for Season 3.
The television entertainment industry has been radically changing since the onset of the pandemic. Most viewers tend to stream and discuss their opinion online. Thus, the social-engagement has become a deciding factor for series renewals. Indeed, streaming and what people talk about online clearly seems to be the gauge for executives. It influences their decision to press the green light.
This may also be the reason why this list is not final. Apparently, they will still announce other series renewal come May. Still waiting for their green light are “4400,” the spinoff series “All American: Homecoming,” “Batwoman,” “Charmed,” “Legends of Tomorrow,” “In the Dark,” “Legacies,” “Naomi,” and “Roswell, NM.”

There is also a speculation that Season 9 of The Flash might be the final season of the series. This will, of course, depend on the performance on engagement and Grant Gustin’s decision for a contract after Season 9. Barry Allen has run a long way from the first time he became the scarlet speedster. As a series from the Arrowverse, The Flash made it possible to bridge his story between worlds including, and very importantly, Supergirl. CW’s The Flash deserves a great close to its series. Arrow started it all and The Flash zoomed it further. The Flash is the connecting story to many DC characters.
We do hope that the rest of the titles get renewed for the audience to continue enjoying their favorite series. For all the activities that may be done to help these titles, the decision still falls on the executives to renew their stories.
In the mean time, people can continue to watch and stream their favorite series.
