Understandably, the actor has been portraying Thor for more than a decade. With four solo Thor movies and additional Avenger movies under his belt, he has made the character all his own. His four movies alone cashed Marvel in for a total of $2.7B in the World Wide Box Office.

However, the actor is acutely aware of what the possible story is next for the character. In his words:

I feel like we’d probably have to close the book if I ever did it again, you know what I mean? …it probably warrants that. I feel like it’d probably be the finale, but that’s not based on anything anyone’s told me or any sort of plans.

You have this birth of a hero, the journey of a hero, then the death of a hero, and I don’t know — am I at that stage? Who knows?

Come to think of it, what he says just makes sense. In terms of how story arcs go. There is the beginning, the middle and the end. The very first movie of Thor, the world got to know the God of Thunder. From his introduction to the latest movie, they were all his journey as the hero. A hero in various points of view. The first was a hero as the Asgardian expectation of heroes. Then the second was the Asgardian god trying to keep the love of his life safe. Afterwards is the third that sets him to the path of deeper self-discovery. That the destruction of his home realm does not destroy him or his people. And the fourth is his journey to duty, love and fatherhood.

In his perception, he may be thinking of ways to pass on the baton. Even though fans may disagree, he knows he can’t portray Thor forever.

Still, he does not close his doors to possible future projects. He always enjoyed playing the character. But at the moment, he knows of what is more important. More importantly, he knows what he needs to do to pursue it.

Chris Hemsworth is truly fortunate to have that kind of opportunity. And it’s within his capacity to make it happen.
