Black Adam May Top Dwayne Johnson Opening Weekend Record

The first weekend for Black Adam is not done yet but already it’s about to top opening box office record of all movies Dwayne Johnson led. Perhaps it’s true what they say: good things come to those who wait. In The Rock’s case, he had years of wait and work to get Black Adam into the theaters. Furthermore, his work is also paving the way for Superman Henry Cavill’s return.

Even though critics are not particularly happy with what they saw, audiences are giving positive feedback in every platform. According to Deadline, Black Adam is in position to take number one spot for Dwayne Johnson’s box office record for opening weekend. In another article, reports indicate that the movie might reach the $70M mark on its opening weekend worldwide.

We checked out other Dwayne Johnson-led movies and their respective opening weekends. At the very top of the list is 2019’s Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. While there are other FF franchise movies higher than this with Johnson, we did not consider them because we needed the ones he did lead. The same is the condition why we did not add 2016 Moana of Walt Disney.

We got the above data from The Numbers from the various movies we searched. The Numbers reflect Black Adam to currently have $26.8M from the Domestic Box Office. The same is also in Box Office Mojo. Analysts are still generating this data and the amount that the post shows are numbers they gathered from October 20, 2022, Thursday. Normally, the box office starts at its highest upon opening. It will die down in the next day, Friday morning to early afternoon. From which, the sales will pick back up in the evening all the way towards Saturday evening with a bit more of enthusiasm. Also, when the international market arrives on Monday, reports will adjust accordingly as well.

The production of Black Adam has long been going on even before the cameras began recording. Johnson himself said that it took almost ten years for the project to fly. He wanted something bigger for DC. Introducing the Justice Society of America (JSA) is a complicated process. How do they introduce a handful of heroes in one movie? Remember Marvel’s Eternals? That movie had to tell so much in such a limited amount of time that the audience barely had the time to care when they started dying on the big screen. DC can’t afford that kind of miss.

In preparation for the movie this weekend, DC released one-shot comics featuring the JSA. One one-shot comics per month per character. This way, they’d already given their heroes a bit of step forward. Somehow, people learned that the production is mindful of each hero’s personal journey. They want the audience to at least be aware of where they are coming from. Besides, this movie is the JSA’s debut into the DCEU as much as Teth-Adam’s.

Black Adam premiered October 20, 2022 and is till showing in cinemas world wide. Starring Johnson as the eponymous anti-hero whose exhibition of powers gained the attention of the Justice Society of America. Joining Johnson as cast are Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone and Sarah Shahi as Adrianna Tomaz.
