Bill Skarsgård’s The Crow Reboot Lands Its Production Location

A recent development for reboot of The Crow with Bill Skarsgård and FKA Twigs indicates that it now has its backlot for majority of shoots. Alex Proyas’ 1994 cult classic will get a reboot from Rupert Sanders. Most of the shots will be taken in a former air force base in Penzing Studios. Meanwhile, there will be location shoots in Prague and Munich. Furthermore, bulk of the digital asset creation and visual effects will be in Bavaria, Germany.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the location is about 30 miles west of Munich, Germany. The Crow will be a flagship project for Penzing Studios. The former air force base boasts 12 soundstages with 270,000 square feet of production space. Aside from Penzing’s digital and virtual production focus, it also can accommodate practical location shoots including a fully equipped hospital.

The report also states that Occupant Entertainment, which is the production company of Penzing Studios, will co-produce the movie through a joint venture with Philipp Kreuzer’s Maze Pictures. Occupant Entertainment co-founder Joe Neurauter says:

With The Crow, Penzing Studios is off to a great start. It is a strong signal that the unique combination of a world-class lot and facilities, cutting-edge technological and production expertise, and attractive funding opportunities are a big draw for top projects and players worldwide. It gives a taste of the digital production hub we aim to build here in the coming years.

Finally, even though this seems to be a delay in their plotted schedule, filming of the reboot is close at hand. Initially the production has its plan to begin shooting in June. However, considering that there have been several attempts to reboot the movie that failed, this production has the most solid possibility of every happening at all. The movie now has its physical shooting location and everyone is looking forward to its further development.

Bill Skarsgård is Eric Draven and FKA Twigs will portray his ill-fated fiancée, Shelly Webster. Award-winning actor Skarsgård comes in many names. He is Pennywise in It, the Kid in Castlerock. He is also Kro in Eternals, and Marquis in John Wick 4 just to name a few. Tahliah Debrett Barnett, more known as FKA Twigs, is a music award winner. She is also a singer-songwriter, record producer, dancer, video director and actress. As she is treading further into movies and series, her fans hope that The Crow would be third of many projects to show her acting skills.

The original movie has the following synopsis:

The night before his wedding, musician Eric Draven and his fiancée are brutally murdered by members of a violent inner-city gang. On the anniversary of their death, Eric rises from the grave and assumes the gothic mantle of the Crow, a supernatural avenger. Tracking down the thugs responsible for the crimes and mercilessly murdering them, Eric eventually confronts head gangster Top Dollar to complete his macabre mission.

The original The Crow movie was critically acclaimed with 85% reviews on the Tomatometer and 90% audience score. With a budget of $15M, it earned $50M in the US and close to $100M worldwide. Obviously, it’s a massive box office success. However, sequels of the original movie did not fare as well. Although the movie had a television series starring Mark Dacascos, it only had a season’s run.

We look forward to seeing the reboot of The Crow with Bill Skarsgård soon. It truly may be time for the movie to fly and soar high again.
