Barry Keoghan On Eternals 2 and Taika Waititi’s Star Wars

Barry Keoghan the actor who brought Eternals’ Druid to life shares his thoughts about a sequel and hopes to be in Taika Waititi’s Star Wars. The award-winning Irish actor has 37 credits to his name including DC’s Joker under Matt Reeves’ The Batman. And he is still counting. Douglas Greenwood of GQ magazine got a chance to talk to the actor and bring forward bits of his thoughts on experiences and plans for the future. Keoghan was able to share the beginnings of his career. At the same time, share the beginnings of his life as a family man. The future may be kinder for the actor, as he has quite a good list of prospects.

While not a lot of people will say that Marvel Studios’ Eternals was a successful movie, Keoghan found it as a wish coming true. Apparently, back in 2013, he tweeted the legend Stan Lee:

Please Make me a SuperHero :).

Fast forward to 2019, he received his role as one of the Eternals alongside Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Richard Madden, Gemma Chan, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff and Ma Dong-Seok. However, critics and fans didn’t receive the movie well. Although, the portrayal of the roles may have been stellar, a lot pointed out that the story feels rushed. In fact, the Eternals could have been better delivered as a series or at least a trilogy of movies. There was just so much information inside one movie. Marvel Studios showcased Eternals in 2019. The same cannot be said for 2022.

In fact, SDCC and D23 came and went without even the mention of an Eternals sequel. Even though the 2021 movie ended with so many cliffhangers, there is no sign of a sequel being in the works. If so, Barry Keoghan would have received word from the studio. But then again, he may just be a great actor and is keeping everything low key. Just this August, we posted actor Patton Oswalt slipped as he talked about being Pip for Harry Styles’ Starfox.

By the reaction of Keoghan, Eternals 2 might not be likely. They didn’t even mention it in D23. Still, it doesn’t mean that their story will not continue. One way or another, in the future, if not a follow up movie, their story can continue within other movies.

Meanwhile, Barry Keoghan shared his earnestness in getting into Director Taika Waititi’s Star Wars. He said:

I’m tryna meet him (Taika Waititi). I’ve been askin’ everyone.

That being said, Keoghan wants to be in the fresh Star Wars movie that Taika Waititi is having in mind. It’s no secret that the director means to move away from the Skywalker Saga for the Lucasfilm franchise. Rightly so, the Star Wars universe has grown and evolved in a way that stories can give birth to new stories. The history and lore of the franchise alone would be a huge playground for the creative minds behind the camera.

Should Barry Keoghan get a part in Taika Waititi’s Star Wars, he would have three major universes to his belt: Marvel’s Eternals, DC’s The Batman and Lucasfilms’ Star Wars.
