Terry Gilliam’s Time Bandits released in 1981. ParamountTV means to distribute the property as a new series with ten hour-long episodes for streaming.
The movie tells about Kevin, a young boy who accidentally joins a band of time travelling dwarves. They can jump from era to era in pursuit of treasure. AppleTV is offering one of the lead role Randall to actor Peter Dinklage.
Because the story premise states Kevin together with the dwarves gets to skip different ages of time, a wide scope of setting is available for the series. Furthermore, Gilliam’s Time Bandits is actually the first of three movies depicting one’s desire to escape a boring and awkward society.
The other two movies are: Brazil which is released 1985, and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, released 1988. Gilliam wrote other pieces such as: The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, Monty Python Live, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Tideland and Eric Idle: Exploits of Monty Python to name a few.
One can already see comedy and drama in the story. 2020 Oscar winner Taika Waititi at the helm is a perfect choice. Based on his previous works, Thor: Ragnarok as well as the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder, the director can promise a colorful dynamic in the story. His recent project Next Goal Wins is completed. Thor: Love and Thunder is currently in post-production. Movies The Incal and Tower of Terror are currently in pre-production. Apart from Time Bandits, Akira is also in Waititi’s pipeline.

Peter Dinklage is no stranger to drama or adventure. His very prominent roster including Game of Thrones and two Marvel Characters under his belt are proof enough. Furthermore, he also appeared in the children’s classic The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. The offer has yet to receive a response from Dinklage. At present the actor is very much in a busy schedule already with filming of She Came to Me and Hitpig. He just recently wrapped production on Brothers, The Toxic Avenger and American Dreamer, which are not in post production. Upcoming projects are The Thicket, The Wild Bunch and The Dwarf.
Let’s hope he confirms.
