The original movie was both a commercial and critical success. With Rotten Tomatoes: 84% on the Tomatometer from 256 reviews and with 73% audience score from 5000+ ratings. Metacritic ratings: at 67 Metascore and 6.9 Userscore. The movie had a production budget of $20M that chalked in $99M in worldwide box office with additional $5M in domestic video sales.

Definitely these numbers get it a green light for a sequel. Jessica Sharzer will again write the screenplay and this time she will also be the executive producer.

The first movie had its big surprise factor. Which really pulled the rug under the viewers. There is this idea that something like it will again happen for the sequel. The chemistry between the actresses is outstanding. Kendrick’s Stephanie truly captured the goodie-two-shoes image while Lively’s Emily kept her mystery and intriguing personality intact.

For the two characters to return to the story for another bout most likely, would mean an juicy secret will again be revealed. Will they take on the whole town this time? or are they going to go to a different community for the sequel. The intricacy that was the first movie is its very charm. For the sequel, they also have to consider that they both have their sons to consider.

We also wonder if they will do a “directly after” the final scene narrative for the sequel. That will also be interesting. But considering the text epilogue of the film, something bigger, more intriguing and dramatic has to happen for the two characters to come together again.
