Fans have been waiting for months for Alchemy of Souls Part 2 on Netflix and finally it is arriving this December. Soon, Netflix brings viewers back to the magical country of Daeho. The first part of the story ended last August 28. As expected, it left fans asking what is to happen to the two main leads?
Quite the intrigue followed when production announced that lead actress Jung So-min will not return as the female lead for Part 2. Instead, the original Naksu, actress Go Yoon-jung will be the female lead. Many fans expressed the disappointment and want Jung to return. However, recent teasers and posters display a remarkable tone and chemistry between Go and the male lead Lee Jae-wook.

Lee’s character Jang Uk is in the official trailer appearing to be an accomplished magical swordsman. Notably, he uses Naksu’s sword instead of his father’s. This alone tells of his personal quest to find and bring Mudeok/Naksu back. But, the trailer shows the original body of Naksu and not that of Mudeok.
Meanwhile, many questions now rise as to what has happened to the soul of the original Mudeok, which is Bu Yeon. This particular aspect of the story seems to be one of the main mysteries that the second part of Alchemy of Souls will cover. Now with the descriptive title Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow.
Avid viewers are already speculating that the Light and Shadow that the title is referring to would be Naksu and Jang Uk, respectively. However, the question remains: Where is Bu Yeon? Such a powerful sorceress could not have just perished or vanished easily.

Netflix’s counterpart in the local Korean distribution, tvN, has just released the newest teaser poster. The tone of the upcoming series is evidently darker and more dramatic, unlike the lighter and slightly comedic tone of its predecessor. While some fans are missing Jung’s quirky personality, many are looking forward to seeing how the story unfolds. Furthermore, fans are now open to the idea of Go being the female lead. There is also information that the upcoming episodes will feature a time jump from the last episode. During the span of which, certain changes to characters are also on display.
Definitely one of the most awaited Korean fantasy series this year and it starts its concluding episodes December 10.
